Default How-to Mod Fog Lights for HID

Hello forum,

I thought I saw a how-to video about modifying the pre-2004 fog light enclosures to fit HIDs, but I can't find it now. And I don't see this written up either.

Anyone have a reference or some experience doing this?

Thank you forum members.

Jag4, I have modified a few cars to have HIDs in the fog lights. Save yourself a lot of work. The factory bulbs are H11's as I recall and you can buy them that way now. So, the modification becomes almost plug and play. Just pay attention to which HIDs you get. Make sure that they are specifically for H11 bases, not the generic ones that are good for like 8 kinds of bulbs. From there, your biggest worry will be getting the polarity right in the plug.

If you need more info, let me know.

Many aftermarket fog lights will snap right into the stock clips, just a wire splice. Looks stock as only the innards are removed, lens remains.
Look for the same size round design with side posts for mounting, I did mine so long ago I forgot the brand I used, no issues so far, did 50k+ miles ago.

Thanks Chris - Good news. Guess I'll have to return the Maxlux generic I just bought...

One thing Chris, can you point-to/link-to "specific H11 base" model you mentioned. I've been taking your recommend and buying Maxlux all around, but I don't see that specification referenced in their product descriptions.

Just want to mention, I have a 2002 (I know you know this), which I thought were H1 fog lights - no? Please confirm.

These folks have hid to xenon conversion plug and play kits as well, but the fogs are H11.

Huh, this is interesting. I just checked the Sylvania Automotive bulb site and they said the fog light bulbs are H1 (not H11). I would say before you buy anything, pull out the fog light bulb and see what it says on the bulb itself. There should be the bulb style stamped on the bulb itself. That will be the tell all. I know that the bulb changed in 2004 with the redesign, but I forget if it went from H1 to H11 or H11 to H1.

You are correct Thermo. 2004 & earlier is H1, 2004+ & later are H11.

Apparently no modification is needed to fit H1 HIDs.
