Always wondered if there was a way to protect the buttons on the radio and other items from wear and finger oils . Considered a clear spray paint after a good disassembly and cleaning .

Any thoughts ?

I've read on this forum few weeks ago about the electric water pump failing so the cabin heating stops working, and of course as soon as I did my pump would occasionally stop and would need a reset so eventually I decided to take it all out before it dies completely. Brushes were pretty much non existent, so swapped them and put it all back together, all works fine again

Sheared the rh engine mounting, and broke the air filter box where it connects to the maf when the engine moved, I just hope it hasn’t done any more damage
Just ordered new engine/transmission mountings and will replace all

Most of my efforts since this Summer have been to prepare the yard for my Wife's shed. Fence repair, removing overgrown ivy ground cover, helping pick through her mountains of stuff. Now this was not just because I'm a nice guy. My Wife promises to get all of her stuff out of the garage and let me have it for my cars. Things have been progressing but at a slow pace at times. The shed is here and it's pretty much filled up.

I've been hoping to work on my XJ6 in the garage. It desperately needs a front suspension rebuild. I would drive it to work occasionally but now it has picked up some pretty nasty oscillations felt through the steering wheel. I quit driving it in October, just starting it up and letting it run for thirty minutes to charge up the battery and keep the juices flowing.

Today I washed it and drove it around a couple of miles. Boy, do I miss this car. Hopefully work on it will begin soon.

Oh hi!
So, just got my first Jaguar (X300 3.2L) and its already broken.
basically, it leaks coolant very badly, the massive leak (i would even dare to say "squirt) is going on under the intake manifold and you guys already mentioned it a lot in the forum that its the bloody water rail.
So in the weekend i`ll try to remove an intake manifold and get a look on the damn rail and other pipes.
Since its my first Jaguar, I would like to know are there some tricks and tips for intake manifold removal? For example, on bmw`s its an pretty easy job. Are there some special tools needed or its just gonna be enough with a
basic tool set?
Of course, will add some pics from this nasty job.

I very much doubt its the water rail, its most likely, what a lot of people call, a 'ba$stard hose', you can find all the info re this here:

I guess I`ll still replace the water rail gaskets, since the intake manifold is off.
Can someone please guide me to some Jaguar parts catalogue where the part serial numbers can be seen?

Also, whats the reason for "b*stard pipes" to errupt so dramatically and so often? For example, on bmw`s, even on older cars the pipes are the least thing to worry about, if your headgasket is fine and theres no extra pressure in the cooling system.
And, as far as i`ve researched the jaguar`s cooling system, the "b*stard pipe" doesnt have some excessive load, vibration or an akward mounting angle on it. Whats the reason? Are the pipe materials just prone to errupting?

No idea tbh, maybe someone else might know more about this, generally all the other ones are fine, never had a single problem with any of the other hoses but this one failed on every single XJ40 and X300 Jag I ever owned. I just don't think they are strong enough and eventually fail with age.

Always failed in a spectacular way too.



That's how mine looked like 2 years ago when it failed, I was overtaking a truck, floored it and it exploded at 70mph leaving a huuuge vapour cloud behind me

It's also the last thing I'd like to replace again on a Jag, its that bad, especially outside in cold weather.

Well, mine wasnt so spectacular, when I bought the car from an lady, she said that the car "leaks a little bit and I just need to take a canister with coolant and some ductape with me", lol. When I opened the bonnet, everything was just dripping in coolant and the coolant reservoir was completely dry. Fortunately its winter here, so I topped the reservoir and managed to get to my garage without overheating the car. Now the reservoir is dry again, of course. Cant wait for the weekend and getting my fingers frostbited lol. My only idea about that pipe is excessive heat. Its running just alongside the engine block so maybe the heat is that ruins the little crap.

GODDAMNIT! Of course it was the bloody bast*rd pipe and the water rail gaskets aswell! Some douche replaced the original bast*rd pipe with some cheap random pipe from the scrapyard, that was way too big in diameter and as a result it didnt seal up properly,so there was a major leak. Removed all the crap that was in the way and now waiting for the parts to arrive.

spray painted the cam cover and s/c intake crinkle black VHT paint. it came out better than I thought it would...


cam cover was polished, before,but,it had too may imperfections,this looks better



the red paint is also VHT,i used a small foam paint brush to apply..sprayed it onto a paper,then brushed it with the paint brush..ooops,got to adjust the fuel line to its proper place..

Put my car in for its anual MOT and serice. Failed on a rear wheel bearing with LOADS of play. That wheel took quite a knock two years ago when a truck took a dislike to me on the motorway.

I have now viewed the vehicle. The damaged bearing was NOT the one attacked by the truck! The garage acquired the new bearing, but it was a loose fit on the stub axle, due to wear - it may be that the bearing had been spinning on the shaft! So now we are awaiting delivery of a new part. The mechanic said that there was evidence that the assembly had been attended to previously since there were centre punch marks around the race.
