Default ECU plug/socket?

Is this my ECU socket/plug?

It is held in place by two 10mm nuts.

Will not pull out with reasonable force.

That is the electrical connector for what Jaguar calls the Engine Control Module (ECM). The ECM is on the other side of the firewall behind the glove box, and those two long screws can be removed from that side. The connector is secured to the ECM by a screw in the hole visible in the center of the connector in your photo. To disconnect the connector requires a 5-lobe tamper-proof Torx bit with a hole in the center. I bought a set on eBay for under $20 that looks like this:

Cheers,

Don

I know this thread is old but what size of security Torx is the ECM fasteners? And is the TCM the same?
Thanks,
Griff

I forget the size of the Torx socket for the ECM however the TCM is entirely different and is located within the transmission.

Hi Griff,
I can't remember the exact size of the 5-lobe security Torx screw on the ECM, but it's one of the medium-small sizes. Just buy a cheap set of the sockets and you'll have what you need.

The TCM or "Mechatronic" in ZF terminology is inside the transmission. Its connector is at the upper right rear of the transmission and doesn't require a socket. I has a plastic outer collar with two wings or tabs that help you rotate it counter-clockwise to disconnect it from the transmission/TCM.

Cheers,

Don
