The crank pulley came off fairly easily, I left it with a lot of pressure on it overnight, and in the morning a couple of additional tightens and it slipped forward, I removed the puller and the crank pulley slid off.

Looks like the tensioners were ready for attention, the two stationary guides have very obvious cracks in them. I'll know more on the hydraulic/spring tensioners later.

It surprises me how long the original designed plastic tensioners has lasted on some engines - yours is well overdue!
A timing cover gasket set and Loctite Ultra Grey sealant takes care of possible leaks. The seals don't work a second time ask me how I know!

Yes, 17 years and 70,000 miles. I will feel much better with the new metal types fitted.

I'll be sure to use some RTV silicone, I certainly don't want to take that crank pulley off twice!

I guess this should go in the "What did you do to your 308 today" section, but I started here, so I guess I'll continue.

Couldn't devote much time to the tensioner job today, but I did manage to get the flywheel locking tool in, the camshaft locks fitted, and strip the guides, chains and tensioners.

The lower, primary tensioners looked okay, but the passenger side secondary had a large crack, and the driver's side pretty much fell apart when i removed it!
