I literally saw 2 XJ's of the same color today within 2 minutes of each other. Pretty much guaranteed no tensioner work, water pump or thermostat housing has been replaced. So what's going on CK, you looking for another one or just bored and surfin'?

I browse as well and I ran across this deal on a 2000 XJ8 (180k)... https://www.copart.com/lot/34614188 ...if your in the Peoria IL area and want a parts car or you want one to refurbish. I have no clue what the black and red things are? ...maybe RCA jacks?

At a buy it now price of $350 it would be a good parts car for someone who needed one.

The "black and red things" are the standard "dealer ID tags" attached to the ignition key, which is fastened to a cable that runs through the steering wheel and around the steering column...........as in typical Mecum/Barrett Jackson etc auction environments.

That's the first time I've seen them. I only ever see a large zip tie around the column with the keys on them. Guess my auctions are too cheap for them?...lol

I was the only X308 in my my small city but today I saw a get this, canary yellow X308 @ the service station. I struck up a convo w/ the driver whom spoke limited English but luckily my Arabic from my USMC days was still serviceable lol. Turns out to be a 2003 w/52,000 miles that was bought @ a surplus sale from a well to do Saudi family overseas, hence the custom paint. The new owner lives in Charlotte NC, he was passing through on his way to the beach.

I gave him my card so he could send me pics later on as I didn't want to bombard some guy @ a gas station & fawn over his car lol. Really shocked @ how that color was so cohesive w/ the 308's body lines.

That would be nice if it were a Super V8, those came out in 2003. But then again, $10k is high and it seems obvious to me it has been stored outside. Offhand, being repainted and stating faded wood grain tells me that. But overall it looks like a nice driver.

My thoughts exactly.

Asking $15K for a 95,000 mile car, which has had a repaint, and has "minor interior blemishes", is unrealistic.

Here's another low mileage XJ8, a very nice looking 1999 with just 40,000 miles.

Asking $14K, and I'm assuming the chains/tensioners will need doing, but a very clean looking car.

Talking

Agreed, but the one thing I don't like....chromed wheels that aren't supposed to be...yuk. I'd like to know why N/A's are being posted with such a high cost? Is it monkey see, monkey do? I think KC needs to offer $3500...

That car's suspension was in dire straits. The owner was oblivious as well.

And even though the 1999 Carnival Red looks very nice, it is 19 years old, and will most likely need the usual tensioner/drive line/suspension/bushings work, but with a negotiated purchase price, and $2,500-$5,000 spent on repairs (depending if the new owner could/would do the work) it could/would be a nice car for a final $10K-12K.

I think the secret is to buy the best, lowest mileage, example you can afford in the first place.(after a thorough inspection).
