I'm here too now
Stop me if you've heard any of this before...
1) Always wanted a Jag, but had the family first,
2) Finally got the opportunity, but other distractions/hobbies kept me occupied,
3) Finances weren't where they were supposed to be when needed,
4) Things started to settle down and ready for the future,
and
5) Finally getting serious and looking around for the 'right one'.
That's me right now, but I'd guess it may fit a few others as well. I'm just starting on this journey and am getting excited about finding the perfect XK8.
Wish me luck!
Ron

Good luck Ron, I'm fairly new here also and would like to point out that if you don't have money to throw at a Jag repair shop, prepare to get your hands dirty. Fun with great rewards......I want to be buried with mine.
Thanks, Premier1one.
I'm of the mind that getting my hands dirty is just-about the best part! I'm moving up from another Brit car marque (can I say 'Triumph' here?), so grease is no stranger to me.

Welcome to the forum Ron,
You're treading a familiar path. From the choice of XK8 it sounds like the back seat passengers are now making their own way.

Ron,
I had a vague idea that one day I could maybe get a fine sportscar. "One day" kept getting pushed off for later, for the exact same reasons that your "one day" gets pushed off for later: life. Years went by. My wife eventually intervened. With her encouragement, I looked around - there is no cost for just looking, right? Then found a great slightly used Jag on Autotrader. I had it checked out by a Jaguar Dealer near where the Jag was, and they gave it a thumbs up. I flew down to Florida with a one-way plane ticket and a check for $30,000 in my pocket. OMG was I nervous. There was no way I was going to buy a car sight unseen and put it on a trailer to have someone else retrieve it for me. Plus I wanted the adventure of driving my very own Jag across the country and into my garage.
I need to tell you the whole process was kind of an amazing epiphany. It was very out of character for me to set aside all those unknowns and just go for it. I mean, maybe I'll be lucky, or maybe I'll be unlucky; there is no way to know except to go for it. The adventure of buying a Jag and driving it across the country re-defined who I am. People look at me differently now. I think about myself differently now. Yes, it's just a car, just a hunk of expensive metal, plastic, and rubber - but I tell you THAT hunk of metal actually changed me. And one of the best parts is I get to re-live the experience when it's a warm summer afternoon, and the snow-capped Colorado mountains are in the background, and my beautiful Jag is prouling out on the road, the top is down, people are checking me out, and I give it the gas and let it fly free. Then is when I realize my face is hurting because I've been smiling so much.
My advice is to go for it.

Ron, “times 2” on Denver Jag’s comments. Good luck on the search but remember, they are easy to fall in love with because they are so beautiful. Don’t let that dissuade you from remembering that records and history are EVERYTHING with Jaguars. Ken

At least the comments are still just as true today (maybe even more so?) for anyone else lurking who might also read them today.
