Default Empirical Data on the F-Pace?

Hey Folks,

My GF is committed to buying a used Jaguar F-Pace.
Initially, she was looking at several different brands of SUV's but came back to the F-Pace as providing the best possible value.
Being a long-term Jag owner myself, I am aware of the depreciated value of the brand and have always felt that many models are underrated in their value. Seems to be a legacy thing with Jaguar to depreciate so quickly, but for us - it makes all the difference.

As a current, 2003 XK8 owner, I know that various model years provided different challenges in maintenance and reliability so I am reaching out to the F-Pace family to see what intel you folks could provide on which models / engine combos / etc., you would suggest for some long-term reliability for her. She is not wealthy, so I am trying to help her find the best possible deal on the most reliable version of the vehicle. Having owned Jags for quite some time, I am under no illusions about the magical model that will last forever without issues but now that the vehicle has been out for some years, we must know some models that were / are more temperamental than others.

She is looking in the 35K used market if that helps.
Thanks in advance. We are going out to look at a couple today and have already test driven a 25T

I needed carrying capacity and traded my Bentley Continental GT for a diesel Porsche Cayenne which I loathed so much that I traded it after 11 months for my current petrol F-Pace 25t. Other options considered were equivalents from Volvo and Audi SUV's. I've run Land Rovers in the past but don't particularly like the current range.

As you will know, any used Jaguar is a gamble and reducing the risk is essential. I usually restrict mine to one owner, full main dealer history and the F-Pace was no exception. Diesel was not on my list which greatly reduced the number available here in the UK and the one I finally selected was the fifth I tested.

As far as build quality is concerned, bodywork is greatly improved on recent models (as a very positive legacy of the former Ford ownership) but interiors have become cheap and plastic. However, trim parts certainly aren't cheap to replace so check carefully for any damaged or missing items.

The Ingenium engines are nowhere near as robust or reliable as the AJ series. There's plenty of horror stories online about failed engines and regular oil and filter changes are absolutely critical on these models.

Problems with your 2003 XK8 can easily be diagnosed with Jaguar SDD which is readily available. Unfortunately SDD won't even connect to the F-Pace and the current JLR Pathfinder is required. The vehicle is still 'DIY' for regular maintenance and repairs but there's this added level of complexity if anything electronic goes wrong.

My overall satisfaction with the F-Pace is high but I will be going back to Bentley driving again next year. The decision to be made is whether it's the XK or F-Pace that goes.

Thanks Graham, lots of practical considerations for sure.
She did go for it yesterday and ended up purchasing a used one that suits her desires and needs.
She opted for a 2018 25T Prestige with 50K on the clock and has factory warranty through to April of next year.
Vehicle was solid with no damage aside from a scrape on the driver side mirror cap. The dealership agreed to replace it for her.
Nothing else. Truck felt solid, made great power and everything works inside.
So begins her - and my - foray into the world of the F-Pace. Hope it all pans out well for her.

Default Jaguar F Pace SUX... dont ever buy

Sign me up... I have a 2017 Jaguar FPace with 80k miles and the engine has failed (rod knocking). It failed after the past 14 months of our Jaguar Dealer Service Dept trying to repair recurring engine overheating and misfiring issues on several visits. It feels like they intentionally stretched out the attempted repairs over that 14 months time frame, which allowed the CPO Warranty to finally expire in July 2023. I am looking to file legal action against Jag and the Dealer. If anyone has any further guidance, your input is much welcome.

I bought my retirement car a little over a year ago. I found a beautiful British racing green one owner 44,000 mile F Pace s with the supercharged V6. Drove it for a wonderful Carefree year when it had a catastrophic coolant crossover pipe failure. I spent $2,500 repairing the coolant crossover pipe commonly known as the y-pipe with the Jaguar upgrade. Replacing the y-pipe a proper metal upgrade only led to the realization that the head gasket had been blown as well. This is considered a major repair and was quoted between six and $8,000 additional. The worst of it all is this is not an uncommon problem with Jaguar f-pace vehicles. I would steer clear of anything Jaguar or Land Rover as they are the same. In all honesty I will never buy a British car again even though they are assembled in India LOL. However I give you two thumbs up on your XK8, that is truly a badass car when it is in mechanical condition. I've always wanted one but understood that they could be very problematic. But I agree with you that the price you can pick one up you can almost make a case for it. Anyway good luck to you and your lady, let us know how it turns out.
