Angry Service woes

Just had my 2005 XK8 serviced by a franchised dealer. Minor service, all was good, but they inspected other parts of the car and found both front subframe rear V mount bushes separating, front subframe front mount bushes starting to crack and perish, front upper wishbone bushed starting to seize, O/S/R lower arm bushes have excessive play, and rear anti roll bar link bushes cracked and splitting! Total cost to repair, parts and labour = £4,900!!!!!!!

Sounds like all bushing work, most likely the cost of parts will be in the 7 to 8 hundred pounds.
Look around for a indy shop and most likely cut that in half, still a bunch.
If you are able to help someone around you that works on these cars, might save even more. Some of those tasks are difficult to replace the bushings but that seems excess and it didn't include shock mounts. Good luck.

Some of the spares prices have gone stupid. Crossbeam front bush:- I got the pair around 3 years or so ago for just under 100 GBP. They're now nearly 250 GBP each (plus your UK VAT).
Madness...

A main dealer is never a good place to have work done as they charge way over the odds for labour never mind that most of the techs have little idea how an old Jaguar is even put together.

You need a good independent, and don’t be afraid to travel to get good work. I used David Marks garage in Nottingham for complete suspension renewal a few years ago and the car has never been better (I live near London). Swallows racing in Bristol has great reviews in the JEC magazine or treat yourself to Jaguar Classic at Gaydon. All of these will do a better job and a lot cheaper than the franchise dealer!
