Red face Finally an owner

Hey everyone! I'm sure you all have been getting a bit bored of my frequent non-owner theory posting and questions, well now I can do the same thing while acctually having the car to go with them! THE QUESTIONS ARE NO LONGER THEORY

Last friday, I finally went down to take possession of a 2016 F-Type R. The summer wheels are gyrodynes with P-Zeros on them (hah, thought so!), and I guess they included two fresh ones due to I guess excessive wear on the existing ones. They also included a set of storm wheels with Sottozeros on them. The salesman also gave me a keychain he said was from the previous owner, and told me they aren't produced anymore (I have no way of knowing this, but it was a nice thing).

As part of our negotiation, they replaced BOTH sets of steering wheel controls due to wear, even though I had only pointed to the one on the left as the problem. They also found a problem with the front splitter needing to be addressed and did so.

I admit that the delays were a little frustrating, but in the end, the experience of finally picking up the car was something I'll always remember.

The pick-up was an amazing presentation. I've never bought a car new, and generally have only gotten used from private sale or small used dealers. While this was also not new, it was something on another level, with an amazing black, mirrored glass room that had really subdued but clear lighting, and the freshly-polished up car. They also gave me the two keys in a very nice box along with two keychains - one of white leather, and the other a leaping Jaguar. Super cool. I really felt like a king picking it up.

I've barely gotten to use the car, but I know it's something special just from the drive home, and I can't wait to go on a long drive at some point. Now comes the secondary purchases (like I was asking in the 'First gear' thread)- especially a phone mount... and thinking about Carplay.

I'm looking forward to a long love affair with this car, and getting to know you guys. Thanks again for all your patience!

Garage is a work in progress. Got too cold this winter! This actually shows the colour of the car (1AG) better. It looks positively gunmetal in the right light. Love those sparkles!

Lego Stig of course has to be in the car w/ me at all times

The nav is so old that it showed me driving in farm fields instead of the major highway that now exists there!

I love this leaping jaguar keychain! It's like black chrome and so pretty.

Honda full o' wheels - Likely going to be looking to offload these winters if anyone local is interested.

Lastly, the steering buttons: from the ad, when I test drove the car, and after they kindly replaced the buttons (the right side ones were in better shape, but still wearing and a bit ragged). Some weird instances of cost-cutting in this car, but whatever.

Congrats on the purchase! It’s on my todo list to get a car presented like that after buying it haha also how much for the white leather keychain? 😅 all I got was the one from carmax and it annoys me lol

Congrats on the new car. I recently installed the GTA kit for Apple Carplay in my 2016 convertible. Straight forward self install and flawless performance

I know this was corrected in the later cars, but does this car have the sticky buttons problem that is talked about concerning the earlier cars?

I’d also be curious to know what specifically you view as “weird instances of cost cutting”? One of the things I’ve loved from the outset is the interior quality on my car, but perhaps this is a function of changes over time. The interior is relatively unchanged I know, but I think a few increases in materials quality have occurred over time.

There are some uses of hard plastics in a few places here and there, but not to the point where it makes the interior an unpleasant place to be…At least in my view…The full extended leather option makes a big difference that allows me to look past some of those smaller things.

The updated cluster in the newer cars also probably plays a role in making things feel a bit different in the cabin as well. I’m generally not a fan of screens though, and part of me prefers the old school cluster like you have.

No, the buttons feel fine EXCEPT for the *** and spoiler buttons - those also feel fine, but they don't press properly, almost like there's something sticky inside that is catching on them and preventing a smooth button press. Like an old TV remote that someone spilled coke on? But the dynamic mode toggle, the HVAC, everything else feels fine.

I'm not sure how to cure this tbh. I was thinking I could remove the buttons and soak them for a bit, then let them dry out in a bowl of rice or something for a while, but I dunno if that would damage something. Replacements are actually not too badly-priced even.

Overall the interior is amazing! By weird, I mean things that you wouldn't have expected them to try to save a buck on, considering the overall presentation. For example those steering wheel buttons (and others, I assume) - why are they painted white plastic? Why not double-shot (where the white and black parts are actually different plastic colours molded together)? Why is the glove box door a hard plastic material where everything else is some kind of leather? Why were aluminum paddles not standard on all the cars? I know from reading some posts on here, watching some videos, that over time that there are certain interior parts that discolour or fade a bit over time so that they are noticeably different in appearance than their surroundings. Stuff like that.

----

On a separate note - does anyone feel a little giddy when they have an opportunity to take the car out? Like it's a bit of an event and you look forward to it? Maybe this is just me being new, haha. Life has been a bit up and down the past few years, and it's nice to have something to be excited about.

(also, thank you to the mods for the quick username change!)

For the later cars I believe they completely switched suppliers for the buttons because of the all the issues with them, so perhaps things are different now. Regardless, button problems can be easily addressed.

As for your comment about the glove box…I think that might be an example of the subtle differences over time…Mine has a nice leather finish on the outside and what seems like a felt-like lining on the inside.

Paddles, I’ve heard complaints on the newest cars like mine in reviews that they feel plasticky. I don’t use them at all, I sport shift with the gear shift…Much prefer that…But regardless, replacing paddles is super simple. Lots on here have upgraded theirs. I never will.

Never ever read anything about fading and such. Probably really dependent on how one uses the car. Mine is garaged and never sits baking in the sun, so I don’t anticipate those sorts of issues.

As for excitement level, hey man, it’s all new. I was the same. My new exhaust recently brought that feeling back ;-0

How many KMs were on the car when ya got it?

Black. You are brave. My favourite colour on most sports cars, but don’t think my sensibilities would allow me to own a black car. See every swirl ;-0 Nothing looks better though when they are clean and swirl free.
