Trim around gear stick
I have searched the forum for this topic with no results. My gearstick is often reluctant to move from Park to drive. I am concerned it may one day refuse altogether whilst away from home. I did find posts on this subject and the consensus seemed to be a problematic foot brake switch. Until I can get a mechanic to check this out, I need to know how to remove the trim around the gear stick so I can manually disengage the lock out should I need to.
Take a plastic pry bar, similar to piece used to take cellphone screens off or to take off door cards.
wedge it under the edge of plastic trim and pry it off carefully and evenly all around. this will take the trim off, but will leave piece around the shifter itself. If you need to remove that part, sorry, can't help you.
Once I had issue with shifter: I had to tighten two screws in front of the shifter under the trim, that i described how to remove.

Correct, you just need to gently wedge a thin plastic pry tool under the trim piece and slowly work your way to lift the trim out of the notches, all the way around. It lifts right out and around the shifter without having to move any additional pieces. There are two screws that hold that piece of the console in place, left and right of the shifter in park, along with the two in the rear vents (if you need to continue to access below the trim).
