Default Drain in front on oil sump

Hello:

I am sure this is a really dumb question, but what is the purpose of the large brass plug on the front of the oil sump? Mine appears to be leaking. Could I remove it without anything falling out, or requiring adjustment?

1989 XJ6 Base.

Thanks so much.

My oil drain plug is at the rear on,,,,,, all of them. Please post a pic of this plug. I am curious what you have there.

I found what it is. Of course the drain plug is in the rear of the sump. But up front, you will find a large brass plug, which is for access to the oil pressure relief valve. And yes, it can be removed in order to replace the leaky copper crush washer.
