Default What Years Fuel Tanks are Compatible?

Hello all. I'm hoping I can get an answer from you guys as I have gotten many of my Jaguar questions answered just by reading old threads. I own 2 Jaguar XJ6's, (XJ40). I have a Black 1990 Base model and a Burgundy 1991 Sovereign. They are both great cars and have only had minors issues that I have quickly fixed when they came up but the big problem I've had with both is the gas tanks. On both cars the bottom of the gas tanks have rusted and started leaking. I fixed my black one about a year and a half ago but recently it started leaking again! I have looked online for new/replacement tanks without much luck. I found one on ebay right now but it says it's for a 1993-1994. My questions are: Is there anywhere I can find or buy a good replacement tank AND what years are compatible? Will the 93-94 tank work in my 90-91? From the pics it looks the same? Any help is greatly appreciated.

You could try checking the part numbers on the jaguar site, Jaguar Classic Parts

When the tank in my 92 collapsed, I used one from a 93. The difference that I saw was the vent pipe leading to the filler neck. On the 93 it is metal tube and on the 92 it is a hose. Thinking more, it was the pump housing as much as anything and where that vent tube connects on it, but you can transfer the housing assuming no problems with it.

There are BASICALLY two tanks.
Ones with EXTERNAL fuel pumps and ones with INTERNAL fuel pumps.
Slight differences with the internal pump models but adaptable.

Thanks guys. Do any of you know if there is any difference in a straight 6 model fuel tank and a V12 fuel tank. I found out the one available on ebay if out of a 93 XJ12. From the pictures it looks the same.
