x type 2.0d sport buying advice
In the next couple of months I'm seriously considering a 2.0d sport x type. I've not got a massive amount to spend, only £3.5k - £4k. After looking around at mondeo's, vectra's and all manor of vehicles I've decided the x type is practicle and a lot of car for the money plus prettty economical. Is there anything I should be looking out for, obviously most of the cars in this price bracket have around 100K miles or slightly more on them. Is this a problem or do these cars run for a good deal longer without serious problems.
In the past my vehicles have been more for fun, range 4.4 supercharged, m3, navara but now i need something sensible and after the old 206 diesel i'm running round in at the moment an e type would pe pure luxury. Also are there any common mods people make to the x type, I've already got a few subtle ideas after looking at a few for sale on ebay.
Oh and as this is my first post I guess I should say hi, I will be around a fair bit more once i Have made a purchase but until then I will be lurking about.

The Ford based motor can fail on the auxiliary belt pulley tensioner. Easily spotted by starting the car and switching on the air con. A really noisy rattle from the engine bay would point towards the upgrade kit being required. (£300 fitted)
A few have suffered suspension bush problems, a test drive over uneven roads soon highlights any knocking noises. Most are a relatively easy diy replacement, but some do require more specific work shop tools.
There are an awful lot of 150k + x-types running happily, they seem to shrug off miles easily provided they have been cared for. Top quality regular oil changes are the big requirement.
