Default Hurricane Sandy

Last Wednesday, my wife and I took the Lotus on the Amtrak Auto Train down to Florida, to attend the annual Lotus Owners Gathering. We had a great time, but when we arrived at the train station Sunday afternoon, they had cancelled the train. We decided, on the spot, to drive home, even though some people were saying that they heard that I-95 was closed.

The drive back was not bad - we saw practically no rain until we were almost into Virginia, and no winds to speak of until Richmond. We did have a 45-minute stoppage north of Richmond - two tractor trailers involved, which were completely destroyed.

On the drive up, we saw a couple of convoys - ambulances and power trucks, sent toward the storm track by FEMA.

A strange coincidence - as we neared home, we stopped at Wegman's to get some food. We parked nose-to-nose with another Elise. It had a Michigan plate.

One slight miscalculation - we got so involved in buying all the prepared food we found, we forgot we were in the already-stuffed two-seater car. We rode home with bags of food in our laps!

Hope everybody is safe!

Bob,

Good to hear you got home safely.

From our BBC News here in the UK, it seems Sandy is hitting a lot further north than first predicted at the weekend when they were suggesting NC was going to be the centre.

Keep safe throughout to all on the Eastern coast.

Graham

We had power out for about 8 hours yesterday. It's incredible how much we rely on electricity nowadays for everything. Needless to say, the Jag stayed in the garage for a couple of days. Fortunately, me and mine are fine. A little further north, not so much. Thanks for the thoughts.

We were out of town for two weeks and missed the excitement of Sandy. I must say we were nervous especially with the older trees on the property but thankfully only a few branches came down. A dear friend of mine in VA was not so lucky I found out that she lost everything in the storm; she and her family got out with just the clothes on their backs and are looking to start from the ground up.
