A young guy here from Haddon Township, NJ. Just across the river from Philadelphia.
I just bought my first car almost two weeks ago, a 1990 Vanden Plas, for only $2500.
It's a sound car, well used, but well loved. It has over 111000 miles on it, and I plan to at least double it before I let it go.

Only pressing fix is that the cassette player doesn't work, so I can't use my iPod-to-cassette thing.
What makes it worse is that Google has not been able to find me any place that sells replacement radio/cassette units.

Folks that I know have told me that having an older Jaguar for a first car can be asking for trouble, and can be costly, but I sorta knew that when I started looking at cars, and since Jaguars were the only cars that I would even consider looking at ones made after 1989, my mom had to cave in and let me buy a Jaguar.
Luckily the one I bought has been only locally used, and it has been well maintained by a local Jaguar specialist.

Cheers!
-Cody F.

Hi VonRyan,

And welcome! Good luck on your new piece of history.. That car has a lot of soul and personality. Where you are in life, I once was, so be patient and with some tender loving care, you can get your Jag where you want it to be.
As for you tape player, have you checked to make sure it has power and doesn't have a blown fuse. Sad to say, your living on this side of the US far from all the nice shops that they have in California.. LOL.. My recommendation would be to change out the head unit if you can get it to work. It cost about the same to repair as it would be to replace it these days.. Land Rover/Jaguar of West Chester is having an meet this Sunday at 9:00AM. Maybe if you have time, you may want to come through but be timely.
Good luck with her..

I have a 2002 XJR on the North Shore of Long Island. This past Sunday there was a great car show in Manhassett. Many old Jaguars in attendance. It was a great day! I hope some of you were able to make it. I didn't bring my Jaguar, but brought my Bentley and Lamborghini. If the weather is nice this weekend, on Sunday, I will be heading to OBI on Long Island. Hopefully, some Jags will be there.

ShaguarNYC there would be three at the NYC meet if you let a guy from YO sneak over the Manhattan Bridge.

Smile New Owner-2004 XJ8- Yonkers, NY

Just got my Jag. Yonkers is nothing but hills and I live at the top. I have a set of Blizzacks to help with the snow. The Saw Mill Parkway is no joke either. Just gotta get "er done. Used to driving up the hills with rear wheel cars. Not as bad as upper and western NY. Hope for all of our sake it isn't as bad as last year.
Good luck to all.

Massachusetts here, '04 XType 96K. Going on my third year and winter with this car and still love it. Always a work in progress, which is what makes it fun.

Default Greetings From Maine

Originally from NYC - now live in Maine most of the time - and just picked up my second Jag; first was in 1988 and the XJ6 and now the proud owner of a 2015 F-Type V6S in Stratus Gray w/Jet interior and Camel stitching...lovely!

Also had a few other nice cars over the years including a pair of Acura NSX's (and orchestrated a number of large scale events revolving around the cars with as many as 50 NSX's driving through the streets of Manhattan with numerous stops and picture ops along the way).

Looking forward to these forums...

Best regards,
RickyJay

West Chester, PA here. Bought my 5th Jag 4 months ago; 2000 XK8 convertible with 58,000 miles. I've noticed several forum members in Central and South Jersey as well as Southeastern PA. Would be great to plan a get-together to swap stories and share resources. Any takers?

Default Southern New Jersey - Jag E Type

Greetings:

I have a 1972 Jaguar E Type.

Used to have 2003 S-Type R, but went for another Porsche instead.

Jaguar is a customer of mine. I visited their plant in Coventry last year and met with several of their engineers. Tata has really boosted the morale at Jaguar.

I'm trying to connect with other E type owners since I just recently purchased. I'm having trouble finding mechanics who are a. able and willing, and b. not ridiculously priced.

Please reach out to TarheelJag if you have an E and can provide guidance.

Cheers,

TarheelJag

Same here. I am currently Jag-less but I am hoping to get back into another one soon. The withdrawal is killing me so seeing some others would definitely help!

Tarheeljag try The Positive Earth Drivers Club, they are out of Farmingdale , NJ. Members have a bunch of E-types. Great group of people and I'm sure they could help you out. They put on a awesome show in September at Ocean Grove, NJ called Brits On the Beach. Check the NE Section and Brits on the Beach blog for pictures from last Sept show you will see some of the E-types.

Positive earth for those not familiar with early British cars, manufacturers attached the battery positive terminal right to the chassis and ran the negative independently like we are now use to the positive being run. If you needed DC+ you attached the wire to any metal on the car and ran the DC- to a negative buss or the negative terminal on the battery.

Default RE; Positive Earth

And the banner for positive ground electrical systems was carried forward by Joseph Lucas; and we all know how well that worked out!

ShaguarNYC, 4 at a NYC Meet, assuming working in Harlem counts ;-) lol. I live upstate some, Dutchess County but work in Harlem. 125th/Madison. I drive my 01 XJR there fairly often (well did, until NYC *really* screwed up parking (worse than usual) on 125th.....now it's mostly Metro North :-(
