Default March meet and drive

So as winter winds down, it is time to get a March gathering on the calender!
I had hopes of higher elevations this year, but the recent storms (yurray!) have again restricted us to lower elevations.
Last year several of us made a loop to Astoria, and I think a similar run is in order. This time, destination Long Beach.
Southbound via 101, and return via scenic 401 and hwy 4.

Stops would include Satsop, Northhead Lighthouse, Long Beach board walk.

Lets say March 22nd?

This will be an all day event, in blustery coastal weather....

Objections?

Tonight I topped off my tank with 7.3 gallons of "petrol" (Jaguars use petrol) and realized I can't remember when the last time was that I filled my tank. Regardless of the date, that 7.3 gallons lasted far too long!

Anyhoo, I blocked it off on my calendar. Let's see if my wife notices!

PS: what do Porsches use?

Tentative schedule:
8:00 Depart krispy Kreme
9:05 Depart McCleary (restrooms)
9:45 Depart Satsop (nuclear towers)
11:30 Arrive long Beach
13:00 Depart Long Beach (lunch)
13:45 Depart North Head
15:15 - Longview (gas)

Return routes from Longview are optional
Freeway to Tacoma is 1:15 (arrive about 4:30)
Back roads to Tacoma 2hrs+ (arrive about 5:30)

Last year we did this similar run and reality put us in Tacoma around 6 or 7ish... I would like to avoid that late a return this time if possible by using parts of the freeway if needed...

I'm dying to go on this trek, but I'm not sure I can take the punishment of all this in one day. Even on a Saturday morning I'm 2 full hours from South Tacoma, so we're talking about getting up in the 4's to get there by 8. I'm not sure about 14-16 hours in the "saddle" on top of that super early start. I'll give it a go though, I hate missing out.

I feel your pain Swimref... A lesser car would have us all hating the distance, but one of the Cats unique talents seems to be its uncanny ability to click off the miles with many smiles and little effort. (Not to mention the great company of those participating!) A lesser car would certainly beat you up half way through.
Still, I keep a single bottle of 5hour energy in the glove box for those return trips that start to wear on you.
My only fear is if the day is constant rain. I'm not afraid of wet, but the tension behind the wheel with cars in front of you kicking up a cloud of mist can wear down your eyes, and mind quickly.
March is a tad early, and April/May will offer nicer runs with better odds of good weather, so if you cant make this one, you can bet you have an invite to the others!

So.... Marko has started another type of forum on meetup.com called "DriveTheNorthwest". where he is trying to gather drivers of all makes and models together for weekend fun on our byways.
I wonder if our Jag turnout proves to be less that expected(Say under 4 cars?), if we should open the event to all makes? I could see two or three more attending if allowed....
Thoughts?
Maybe wait till the Monday before the event before opening it up?

input please?

Vince

Open it. Lets try it and see what happens. The Meetup group is located here: Northwest Car & Driving Enthusiasts I think it will be later in the season before the Jag drivers emerge from hibernation.

PS: loved your mods, Marko!

Vince, if you do want to open it, you can schedule it in the group. I gave both, you and Muddy, organizer privileges. :-)

Sounds like a fun trip.
Sadly I have commitments that weekend but if it changes let me know.
Be good to see ya'all again.

If everyone has passports I would love to organize a Canadian drive this year. Keep it in mind.

I believe you have several of us down here in agreement! This would be a great idea!

We have passports and have taken the big cat into Canada twice. I'd really love to do a SW BC drive and explore some of the cool sights. Count me in!
