I'm assuming that you're talking about older models, like from the 70's-80's? Because newer Jags have become so reliable that there's no need at all to mess with the power plant.

Default XK engine

I have had jaguars all my life

If you look after an XK engine properly it will outdo most engines

The same engine without mods ran ran 3 consecutive years Le Mans taking the top prizes as well as being the power house for the cars from 1948 to almost 1985. This is while they sold thousands of cars. If they were crap why do you think people bought them ? Those molested cars have not retained their values. An XK engine is a work of art (engineering art).

Just change oil regularly replace spark plugs in correct intervals use correct coolant, and keep the carbs tuned properly that engine will last you over 300000 miles . Some modern engines will have a job keeping up with that. The reason people shy away is because the sophistication of the engine is beyond them and that normally means neglecting the unknown and once down that path there is nothing but disaster. Keep it well and it will appreciate in value unlike the chevy modified stuff

My two cents
