Red face Tune up for 1998 XJ8 4.0

I've been searching online for wires, distributor cap,and spark plugs. Most sites list only universal fit parts. I need your help in choosing the right parts for best or exact fit. Any suggestions? I have a 1998 jaguar xj8 base with 4.0 engine. THANKS.

Your XJ8 doesn't have the HT wires or distributor cap used by older ignition systems. Each bank has four separate ignition coils mounted to each camshaft cover, directly above the spark plugs and controlled by the ECM via the ignition control modules.

Usual practice is only to change a coil if a fault develops.

When you change the plugs, check for oil in the plug holes. This is a common fault caused by failure of the rubber O Ring boss seals (click on the image to enlarge it):

There are two patterns (item 3 and item 16). Either pattern can be used as replacements.

Greetings! Electronic Coil cover and at least one of the Coils have lost their screw retainers, threaded insert, which somehow popped out of the holes they were obviously pressed into, looks like threaded brass gossett. Where can I find new ones? Thanks in advance. Ricky

Welcome to the forums Ricky,

You certainly have found an ancient thread for your first post. It didn't look immediately familiar to me and then I saw I'd replied to bodyworker49 11 years ago!

I know the issue you mean and recommend you re-post the question in X308 forum for advice from members with the same model:
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/xj-xj8-xjr-x308-27/

I suspect the answer could be you're going to have to source a complete replacement cover from a breaker but it's a while since I had my X308 and there may be a solution developed since then.

Please read the guidance for new members ( https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/n...ned-up-241802/ ) which answers many of the most frequent questions about getting started.
