Default New Shoes

Hey Guys,

I have a 2003 XJR with stock 18's. I am leaving the rims the same but debating between tires, the tires I like are all 255/35 and the tires on the car now are 255/40's. Like the Hankook RS-3's a whole lot along with the Toyo Proxes. How do you think the decrease in sidewall will affect performace? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Broadly speaking the shorter sidewall will firm-up the ride and increase steering response/sharpness.

The difference in your case isn't all that much but my experience, FWIW, is that you reach a point with low-lower-lowest profile tires where the cons start outweighing the pros. There's a greater chance of wheel and/or tire damage from impacts, it's harder to find tires that give anything resembling a decent tread life, and the chances and/or severity of tramlining is increased.

Others will chime in.

Cheers
DD

Which Toyo Proxes? There are many different tire models within that brand.

I have the Proxes 4, and I don't like them. See:
