Default "Questions/Common Problems with 2005 3.0 X-Type Jag

First time on this site [sm=grin.gif]

I’m going to look at a 2005 Jag X-Type 3.0 with 70k Tomorrow

I wanted to ask you all a few questions

1,Is the X-type a higher trim level then the Type S

2,What Besides the Tranny needing to be flushed and the brake cailpers being Service are things I need to look at/out for

3,Do the Head Gaskets, Water pump go often on these cars etc

4,Being half a Ford LOL,Can it be serviced at a Ford dealer or does it always need to be brought to a Jag Dealer Ship

5,Is the 3.0 the Same engine that was used in the Mercury Sable

Thanks for your time

Hope some of you members can lend me a hand
Just trying to get a Good Idea on this car as I'm trying to gain a little more knowledge on it and what are the Trouble problems on it

1. No, but a better car IMO.
2. by 05' they got most of the bugs worked out. listen for any sort of whine from the transfer case.
3. no, they do not go often.
4. It has to be serviced at a Jaguar dealer.
5. The Jaguar AJ-V6 engine is a specialized version of Ford's Duratec 25/30 V6. One notable addition is the use of variable valve timing, a feature also shared with Mazda's version of the engine. It is available in 2.0L, 2.5L and 3.0L displacements. Jaguar's AJ-V6 engine has an aluminium engine block and aluminum DOHC cylinder heads. It uses SFI fuel injection, has 4 valves per cylinder with VVT, features fracture-split forged powder metal connecting rods and a one-piece cast camshaft and has direct-acting mechanical bucket (DAMB) tappets, these design aspects differentiating the AJ-V6 from the Ford and Mazda versions.

not 70,000 Miles 70,000 KM

So 43,495 Miles

What have you had to replace on your Jag Mate

Oh, I'm sorry, 70K doesn't tell me if it's miles or kM....at any rate, you are in need of some inspections and checks (if not already done)..At 33,000 Miles I had to replace the water pump and the battery a few thousandmiles before this..so accually nothing serious..so you should be in good shape..

Vegas:

A couple of other things about the engine:
It uses a more sophisticated induction system than the Ford version.
It's a high compression engine (10.5 to 1) I think.

oh, BTW, what are they asking for it??

They want $15,000

It doesn’t say if its a Sport,VDP and the pictures don’t show me on the back

But they say it has

-Heated Power seats(Can see the Buttons in the pictures)
-Sunroof(can’t see this in the pictures)

I have to get going now

I have my own take on everything and if he doesn’t have all the service records and have a CarFax to hand me and doesn’t seem on the up and up I’m walking away.

It’s a Off lease from Jag with one owner and remaining warranty still on it

An '05 for that money inCANADA will probably not be a Sport and probably not even a 3.0, unless it is fishy... nice to see you'll do lot's of due diligenceon this one, JagFanatic.

No that is the going rate for one with 70k on it. A 2005 sport 3.0 with 74k and 4 months left on the warranty sold for $14999 (may have been less, that's what they offered it to me for) from a Chrysler dealer in TO last week. It was on their lot for 6 weeks prior listed at $17999. It was a one owner lease return with a good car proof. Black book trade in value for the car with 70k is $9000-$13000. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get away (I'm 500km from Toronto) when they offered it for $15k and it sold... so I'm still looking.

Thanks Greg. That's both good and bad news. Good for the potential buyer but not so great for owners. Sad to see a three year old X with remaing warranty worth less than a third of it's original value.

Hi

Just had the time now to tell you all

It went from $15 to $18,300 with everything in with NO Budging on the price

74,200k To 74,629k

He didn’t have any service Records for it, No Car Fax nothing

It had the Backup sensors and Sunroof, Heated power seats(Both) sides

But it was the outside that Bugged me

There were so many Marks and Scuffs and the one Rim even had Curb Rash

I never said anything about the Rim but he said its a used Car its going to have marks 2005 JAG

The Inside was Decent but there was Chocolate or something on the Back of the seat and Some Black Scuff Marks all over the place said it could be re-cleaned how much Cleaning does it need.

Also the Warranty from Jag there’s only about 6K left

He said they looked it over and found something and fixed it but didn’t say what and didn’t have the papers on hand but said I could look at them. Before I leftI asked could I read them.

Nothing........

I'm not a Picky person but some of those things didn't go well and just got a bad vibe from everything

I'm even going to write my OMVIC papers in a few Days and I don't think I would have someone just give me 18K before those things were fixed.

you had to be there

we do alot on our before presenting for sale, services, tires, brakes, etc if even close, ie we dont want you in for an oil change in a few months to be told you need brakes, tires alignment etc.... and rims are always repaires and repainted, paint repaired, scratches removed and interiors cleaned and detailed. But thats what I would expect at a good dealer, car lots are usually full of cars dealers dont want, due to repair cost, or other issues

To me that price seems high! I'm in the US though so that changes it. How hard would it be for you guys to import a US x-type? Is it just the driving light not coming on full time that is the problem? If so that would be an easy fix.

I've seen a couple 2005 sports with the 18's and body kits for around 13-14k with just as low miles if not less. Not to mention factory warranty still intact.

If you aren't sold on the car from the second you see it walk away. Sounds pretty shady! What kind of dealer were you at? I will forever stay away from mercedes dealerships after my experience with the...

Importing an X-Type from US into Canada was easy. Until you get to the border and even though you have DEALER paperwork, the Customs officials have a problem with how little you paid vs what you would have paid in Canada...but that's another story and a few years ago...before the dollar was at par and everyone was doing it... Today, at $1.20 Cdn plus Duty and GST, it's not as good a deal. $13,000US turns into $17,500 Cdn pretty quick. Also, watch for state sales tax if you take delivery and drive it home vs having it shipped. If you do buy it in the US, have the dealer change to daytime running lights for you.
