$2 and 2 minute solution to "cruise not available"
Meny of us driving the X-type are (were) dealing with a check engine light. When codes were read, most of the time it turned out to be an evap leak. I was dealing with this and in the last few weeks, the dreaded "cruise not available" came up and limp mode became a daily thing.
Well, after many headaches with the dealer, fog tests, diagnostics of all sorts, reading forum after forum after forum, me and my not-very-car-savy mind decided to pop the hood and have a look. At first glance everything seemed OK. Until I removed the plastic cover from the engine block. There's a hos running on the right hand side on top of the engine... and wouldn't you know, there was a 4 inch crack in the hose. Instead of taking it to a dealer and paying their insanely expensive labor, I went to Autozone (I'm sure Napa, O'Riley's, Auto Parts Plus, etc would have been just as fine) and got a replacement hose for less than $2. Removing the old hose and installing the new one was a breeze. 2 minutes later: no more limp mode, no more check engine light, no more "Cruise Not Available"...
Now let's just hope this does the trick!
