03 How Much/ AWD
Hi all, orginally I was looking at a 02 Xtype, but now I found a 03 Xtype 2.5 and it has a lot lower miles at 69,000. The dealership is selling it for $7,990. They said they would be willing to negoitate price but keep mentioning that is has lower miles compared to others.
What would an acceptable offer be? Do you think I could offer $7,100 to $7,500?

Also, how is the AWD with this car? I have been looking for something that is good in snow so just wondering if it has a good AWD system

a5, when it comes to what a dealership will be willing to sell the car, all you can do is make an offer and go from there. If you have a trade in, that can make it easier or harder. All you can do is make an offer and see what they say. I can see them taking the $7500 offer with no trade in. But, if that car is in demand, they may stick firm to the $7900 price tag.
As for the AWD system with this car, it is a mixed blessing. What I mean by this is when you are using it in adverse conditions, you will find the car very sure footed and will get you beyond where a lot of other vehicles can make it. BUT!!!!! If you are looking for something that is sporty and shooting from stop light to stop light, this car will be a very expensive one to own as the transfer case doesn't like lots of abuse. At $3000 for each transfer case and it only probably lasting you 30K miles between transfer cases..... I think you can do the math on that one. You drive sensibly, it will do you good and the transfer case is not an issue.
If you have any more questions, ask.

Scuba, do you drive with your foot on both the brake and the accelerator? If not, you may have something wrong causing your poor mileage. My 3.0 has no problem averaging 25+ hwy. I've done as well as a consistent 32 on a 175 mile trip with a tailwind ;-). Sure, they are AWD and don't get stellar city mileage (I do about 18 mpg or so in town)

Data point... ;-)
Driving back and forth to the mountains of New Hampshire on the interstate highway with the cruise control set at 70mph I get ~26 mpg. Back and forth to work on the highway plus miscellaneous local driving I get 21 mpg. Local driving only I get 18 mpg. I use premium gas.
It's been that way since I first got the car with ~36K miles on it and it now has ~62K miles.
Certainly not an economy car, but that's ok.
No stink'n econo car has a leaper on the hood!
