Default '03 X-Type Climate Control causing limp mode

My 2003 X-Type, 2.5, manual trans, automatic climate control, keeps going into limp mode as soon as I go over 2500-3000rpm with the climate control on. If the climate control is off, it drives just fine. The only code it keeps throwing is Flight Recorder Data.
My mechanic has gone over all the sensors and has tested all the wiring in the engine compartment and can't isolate the problem. We're pretty sure it is a short. Has anyone else run into this problem? Any/all help VERY welcome. TIA
