Default 04-05 Recall Service

I got a letter re a recall covering the tranny on the 04-05 Xtype last week. I took it to the dealer and had them perform the service. Apparently they reprogrammed some module that controls the transmission. I can tell you that I had always felt that my transmission lagged too long between shifts (its an auto). Now it shifts much earlier and drives much more responsively. If you got the recall notice, i strongly recommend you taking it in for service.

Is there a specific recall number on the letter?

Default Recall #

yes, the recall # is Program Number J004, and it covers 2004-2005 S-Type, XJ, XK, and 2004-2007 X-types (I just dug up the letter and noticed 04-07! I thought it was just 04-05)

While it is billed as an emissions problem that requires reconfiguration of the engine control module (ECM), some cars may also require reconfiguration of the transmission control module (TCM) which could result in improved transmission shift quality over time. I noticed the improvement after a mere 24 hours.

The letter says to call the dealer and ask for a RECALL ACTION J004 SERVICE DATE. They will probably ask for your VIN to confirm your car falls under the recall coverage years (I did my request/scheduling via e-mail).
