04 xtype 2.0 diesel PAS groans/wines, another pump fitted tonight, still groaning
Hi chaps,
I ran my fluid low in my Powersteering pump, when refilled there was a slight groan present and after several months, it got so loud, that you were even hearing it driving in a straight line at low speed. Its loud enough that those walking the street stop and stare.
Anyway, I guessed the pump was goosed.
I got another pump and had it fitted tonight, for the first 5 minutes the car drove perfect, no groans and all of a sudden it came back, growning and whinning.
What is this? I need help ASAP as I need the car for going on holiday on tuesday and my other half will kill me if she has to wear ear plugs!!
thanks

This was a common problem some time back, but I haven't noticed any other recent reports of it until yours! The original solution from Jaguar was to use a special additive in the fluid, but whether dealers still stock it in Ireland, I don't know! Try them!
You said you topped up a low level just before it all started - what fluid did you use? Should be Dexron 111, readily available at Halford's etc. If that's not what you used it would be sensible to drain it and start again!
