Default 130watt headlight bulbs

I have an 04 X-type 3.0 and I just ordered a handful of ring rally sport 100 and 130watt h1 bulbs from the U.K.. Do I need to change the fuse for the headlights to a higher amperage, If so what amperage should I use? Also is there a high performance bulb for the daytime lights?

Thanks in advance

I think maybe you should worry about lamp housing melt down..That sounds a little too hot..I could be wrong though.

Welcome, but honestly you should have come on here and asked about headlights bulbs to buy or search for them. More than likely you are going to find that you are blowing the bulbs you are putting in the car. I put perhaps 4-5 sets of 60 dollar sylvania silvestars in my x-type before I said screw it, it isn't worth it time for the stock sylvania yellow bulbs. Personally i'd just invest in a hid kit. Good luck though but if they blow don't waste your money on new bulbs. There is a known problem with them with the initial surge of the lights turning on that bulbs just can't handle. I say it's due to the small filament/coil things inside the non sylvania stock bulbs that causes premature blowing up of the bulb...

Hey there italianxtype...

re the 100 w bulbs......you sure they're not 80w/100w? I have heard of them and used them, but not the 100w/130w ones.
The ring sportzblue ones are what I used in the X type and they lasted ofr 13 months and still going strong as far as I'm aware. Only one blew and was replaced under warranty by the supplier. They produce a really bright usable light so its all good.
Do not put a higher fuse in as thats the thing that should give first. I heard so many stories about --- you'll fry the wiring loom or your car will go up in smoke....never happened!
I spoke with a tech from the RAC ( A breakdown assistance organisation yesterday ) and asked the question again as I'm gonna put them into my Mondeo and possibly the A6 along with some leds for the sidelights, reverse lights and number plates too. He said, absolutely no problem. If you're worried about it, if anything put a lower rated fuse in so that will blow first!
I had similar feedback from my Auto spark the first time around and all was good.

Essentially in the end up though its up to you.

Good luck mate

Just a point to make. X-Type headlamp connectors are notorious for melting with just the stock bulb in there. For those of you that bought your car used, you probably never experienced the problem. I am talking about halogen lamps, not the HID.

Interesting FJT............As posted I had the uprated bulbs in there for over a year and never a sign of any problems at all mate.
Whats your take overall on the lighting in the X's though? Everyone seems to complain about them and feel the need to upgraded them?
Surely you'd think that Jag would realise this and do sumthin about it for their customers?

Just a though, be interested to hear your views mate as there's always never ending threads on this topic.

If I can see where I am going at night or inthe rain, I am happy with the lighting.
Generally speaking I think Jags lights are great for vision in all climates. Only problem as we all know is the levelling. But I will leave that one right there.

If it aint broke, don't fix it.

I've read on other forums when I was searching for the wiring diagram for the radio that the surge of power is what causes the problem in blowing bulbs. I figured that was why but I attribute it to the cheap build of the bulbs vs. the stock sylvania's. The inside coil is so thin on every single other bulb including the sylvania silverstars.

The problem with the X though FJT was that thew lighting was / is very poor which is why so many people are running round either upgrading bulbs or adding HID kits!
Thats certainly the reasoning behind it for me....It was damn dangerous driving round in the X at night[&:]

If you look at any thread topic on bulbs / lighting / HID's etc etc they are amongst the most popular topics. Jeeessh, one on the .co.uk forum reached around 200 pages[&:]
For one reason and one reason only..........The std lighting is very poor and many many people have upgraded their bulbs or changed to HID's.
I thought you had Aquill?
If you thought it was alright why did you upgrade to HID's?
