Default xj help please!

hello everyone. I am new to the forum and a new to me jag owner! finally got my "dream car" 2004 xj8. However I am having two issues with it. first the wipers don't work by the wiper switch but if I turn on my headlights and push my fogs on they come on but my car almost stalls out.... second my abs dsc and traction light come off and on randomly and when they do my steering wheel gets a little sluggish. any help in these two matters would be greatly appreciated. btw I just replaced the battery with a new one and still am having the same issues.thank you once again.

Check the condition of the ground studs behind the front headlights. They may be corroded which could cause all sorts of electrical problems.

Hi kingdom worker,

Welcome to the Jaguar Forums!

There are many possible causes of odd electrical gremlins, so the first thing I would recommend is that you have the car scanned for any stored Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), which could help narrow down the diagnosis. Most of the Powertrain (P) codes can be read with a generic OBDII/CAN scanner, but to read the Chassis (C), Body (B) and Network (U) codes requires either a Jaguar dealer system or a third-party system such as AutoEnginuity with the Jaguar extension.

Regarding the grounds XJ8JR mentions, see this post:

Earths/Ground Points Near Headlamps

Regarding the wipers/headlights/fog lights, the stalk switches are known to fail and cause odd problems, but it could also be a problem with the wiring in the steering column or the control module (clock spring). You may find some clues as to what circuits may be co-mingling in the 2004 XJ Electrical Guide, which can be downloaded here:

Jaguar X350 Electrical Guide 2004

If you get the codes scanned, please post them here and we'll try to help!

Cheers,

Don

Hi Don

May I ask if the link you provided for the 2004 XJ can be used for the 2007 XJ 2.7D model which I currently own?

This was the link you provided in your post

Hi Colin,

This link is probably more correct for your car. It includes the engine management system wiring for the 2.7D:

Jaguar X350 Electrical Guide 2006

Cheers,

Don
