Question 16" wheel questions

So my new wheels aren't here yet and I have a track event scheduled for June 2-3. I've been shopping around for ANOTHER set of wheels and I've been looking at 16" wheels for a multitude of reasons. Tirerack has NO 16ers available and not many other sites seem to have many available.
First off, will 16" wheels fit over my brakes? I've seen some X's with stock 16's but mine came with 17's. Second of all, what backspace would I need for a 16x8" wheel?
Thirdly, has anybody had a problem squeezing 225/50's over the 16x7" wheels?
Thanks a bunch!

Good luck with the search chk, if you're asking about some stock wheels, feel free to post your repost your question in the X-type section (or let me know here in a reply, and I'll move it for you). I truly think the guys with wheel knowledge would be likely to see and give you some help back in the regular forum.

I appreciate you trying to keep your question related to the proper forum area, however.

Might as well move it and see if it gets any more attention there. Thanks!

I have a set of 16" OEM 10 spoke Jaguar wheels (original wheels on my X type) with Hankook IceBear W300 snow tires with perhaps one season left on the tread (I think they are 205 or 215/55's, I'd have to check). I may be willing to part with them, PM me if you want to talk about a deal. These will fit your X type, and I think 225's would probably be okay.

One wheel has a little curb rash, but other than that they are in pretty good shape.

Hmmm. Color me interested. I can't pm you as I'm on my phone, for some reason it's not working. How much for shipping to 02190 and how quick would you be able to get them to me? Feel free to pm me, I'll check it later when I'm on my computer.

Let me know how the track day goes in the x. As for your questions. Brakes will work just fine with 16s, 225/50s will fit nicely but you may find that they're a little too much for the car with some real stickies. Might want to stick with some 205 or 215s unless you're running upgraded springs.

If you're not going with dedicated dot legal I really like the Kuhmo XS's I got this year on my TVR. 4 for under $400 shipped!, They're a little loud but I can't hear 'em at all in the TVR but stick nearly as good as the Victoracer does. I think they're discontinued now but I also liked the Hankook RS-2s I had on there last year but they rubbed a bit on the TVR so after paint I went with a smaller profile.

Chris, thanks for the PM, I replied.

Benebob, thanks for the input! I'm really looking forward to the event. It's a two day event at NHMS with the Audi Club. I worked a hillclimb this weekend and I've decided I'm going to sign up for one in about four weeks, I'm pretty excited.
I went to Classic Cars of NHMS this weekend and saw a REALLY nice TVR. I'll get some pics posted soon. I love those cars.

Hill climb? Who are you running with as far as a sanctioning body. I built a hill climb Subaru SVX and it isn't the easiest thing to do. It was a full boar race car complete with cage, fire supression system, etc.

Definately a blast though on the right courses.

I'll run with whoever lets me. LOL I'm not picky. The one I'm signing up for is with Killington Sports Car Club. It's probably the only one I'll be able to afford this year as I'm also signed up for three track events.

No I'm asking who the hell would sanction a hill climb without the necessary minimum standards. I know it isn't the SCCA or NASA so who is underwriting it and insuring it. Having seen some VERY scary accidents going over 100 up a country road into a tree or down a 50 foot cliff means a full cage, 6 point harness, HANS, SA helmet, fire suit and the whole 9 yards.

There is a reason I don't do it with even that protection any more. She's siting here watching the Simpsons right now.

Ah, I see what you mean.
But I also don't agree. If they let you on the hill and they think you're unsafe they just won't let you run again. Like a certain somebody that showed up in a certain supercar this weekend.

Then who is underwriting your insurance as your auto insurance isn't. If you hit a pedestrian it is all on you. Reality is without the proper saftey equipment it is no different the street racing. Not being mean but there is a reason for running sanctioned events rather than ma and pa stick events. I'm sure that supercar could've killed someone that first run but I guess that's okay since no one told him he couldn't.

Putting your trust in "they" is like putting your trust in the gov't.
