Default Center Cap Question - 2002 X-Type (Onyx White)

Good morning,

New here.

Father in law happened upon a 2002 onyx white x-type with the painted five-spoke wheels.

One of his center caps is missing. He has sent me some pictures of the others and claims they are silver. I've looked all around and cannot find "silver" center caps. It appears to me that they were black at some point but have become worn over the years.

My question is, how do I find out what the true color was? Is there a color associated with the jag's body color and/or trim level?

Thanks for your help.

I am reasonably sure they were probably black, with a silver emblem. I do not ever remember seeing white as a color for stock X Type wheels. If you go to an X Type wheel site, on Google, it may help you out, and if you want to change the color of the center cap, a lot of Chinese companies make some pretty wild colors on Ebay. Just measure the hole or cap, before you order......Good Luck....Mike

I should've been more clear. The body color is white. The wheels are painted silver. Just can't tell what color the center caps were as they are now silver-ish.

It doesn't matter what colour the car is, the centre caps were standard black when the vehicles were new. Some later ones had the word Jaguar round the edge but earlier ones didn't.

As stated above, you can get various aftermarket ones in different colours

The green would look great on a white car!

In '02 the standard X-Type centre caps were dark green with silver Growler.

The 2 wheel badge choices available to new buyers for the 2002MY X-Type were:

1. black background (as shown in mjtemple's post)
2. silver/green

When the black backgound ones wear, they look like dirty aluminium. I had this pattern on my 2001 XK8 and that's exactly what happened to them.

One some vehicles that I have seen, the centre/center caps are in fact silver due to the finish coming off. For the X-Type, the most common factory color center cap is green.

The cap should be placed so that the Jaguar’s chin points to the tyre valve. It is common practice by older workers in wheel refurbishing.
Although not compulsory, it really does save time checking your pressures: especially in poor light.

OEM are and were GREEN. Also notice they were and are the original "growler" logo.
