620, 19's all the way. I have heard of a lot of people attempting 20's on their X-Types and all of them that I can think of came back with 1 of 2 statements: 1) TONS OF RUBBING or 2) had to take the car to a body shop to have them modify the wheel wells. Neither of those sound good to me. Even running the 19's make sure you are getting a tire that is really close to the stock tire size. You get off by even a little bit and it can lead to rubbing with the 19's too.

Kris, the X-Type was built around styling and the big thing is having the tires low slung to the body of the car. So, in response, when the X-Type was built, they picked a size tire, then sized the wheels wells to fit tightly to the tire. While it gives people the look that they are after, there are a select few that it screws. In this case, if you are wanting to step up to larger rims, you are in short screwed. Sure, you can play a little bit with rim and tire sizes, but that only takes you so far. After a few steps, you will run into a wall. Unfortunately, for the X-Types, this wall is very close, so your options are very limited.
You know I am one of those that is more than willing to push the limits of what a vehicle can handle (I think my Expy speaks for itself). But, in this case, the only way to make the larger tires work is to enlarge the wheel wells. Unfortunately, that means lots of money to pay a shop to give you that extra inch or so. Not many people in these forums are going to lift their car to fit the bigger tires. If you know anything about a Jaguar purist, even the concept of upgrading the rims to something different is a big no no. Modifying the Jag to be tall and whatnot is completely out of the question and is probably likely to get a beer spilled in your lap. If you don't believe me, find a Jaguar only car show and see what the cars look like. I would say 99% of them are going to look like they just rolled off of the show room floor. That 1%, you will see them sitting by themselves because the rest of the group has shunned them. Call it snooty, call it what you want, but that is how it is. I'm part of that 1%, but at the same time, I also understand the desires of the other 99%.
I'm not trying to paint any sort of picture here. I am merely calling a spade a spade. I know I got my eyes opened up when I went to a Jaguar only car show this past summer. It was easy to see what was going on.

I agree, everyone's personal taste is different. For me, I can't believe that a 20" rim would look good with the wheel well opening, especially if the car height is higher. Have to admit though I have never seen an X with 20" wheels (anyone have any pictures?). Never been a fan of cars that are all rim with a rubber band of tire showing, especially when they look like they are 10 feet off the ground. But, that's me.

Queen, as long as when you do the switch you put on 225/35R18 tires, you will be just fine. That is the stock size tire for the Sport with the 18" rims. So, no need to worry about rubbing issues.
Alfa, amen brother. I never quite understood the Donk car look. Granted, if I won the lottery, one of the projects I have planned is making a super Donk. Imagine a car running on 66" rims (rubber would then be on top of that). I have the plans, I just need to come up with the money. he he he he he he. I would atleast put it on a mid 80's Caprice. he he he he he he. Take that homey.

That X with the 20's just looks a bit too out of proportion to me. Try driving that in the real world for any length of time and you better have at least one more set of spare wheels as I bet they would be bent within a month, at least with the roads around here.

Alfa, those are only 26" rims, I am talking about 66" rims (yes, 66's). I could get up to 36" rims now from any local tire shop (granted, they will set you back 20 G's, not counting the rubber to go on them). You would need a step ladder just to get into a car like that. he he he he he. The bumpers would be probably 5 feet off the ground. So much for a bumper height law. LMAO. If you are going to go big, might as well shoot for the stars. I wonder if I will need an oxygen mask when running rims that big due to sitting so high?

Like they say: Go big or go home. I'll be watching for you at the next monster truck event. A Jaguar X monster truck.....now THAT would get my attention. Would love to see you gun it the first time just to hear the cool sounds the transfer case would make.
