Default 19s without lowering? pics?

Hey guys, wondering if anyone have pics here of x-type on 19s but not lowered? i'm not that incline to lowering the car for practical reasons like kids and wife but i want to get nice rims. so i wanted to know if it will still look good?

The ground clearance will obviously go up, maybe even by quite a lot. It might turn into an SUV, but if it's an AWD model, wouldn't that be perfect?

If you lower the car & add bigger wheels, wouldn't the height of the body stay pretty much the same (depending on how much you lower it of course)? I'm a novice really.

Actually by installing lowering springs + 19 rims, the car would definitely be lesser ground clearance than stock, by how much im not sure. maybe an inch? anyone?

Really?

If you buy 19s, then the tires you will get need to be slightly lower profile than the 18s that came on these cars from the factory. The net effect will be no increase in ride height at all. Here is a picture of my donk to prove that point - on 20s no less:

The problem is that optically a lower profile tire should have less tire-to-fender gap. Once people go crazy low (like me) then they tend to want to go under the factory tire diameter and you will hear legitimate complaints about bigger wheels not allowing them to go lower, but that doesn't apply here. A 19 with a 225/35/19 or a 215/35/19 isn't a problem and it the same size as what you have now.

Eh, that actually makes perfect sense. I somehow forgot that typically the outer diameter of the tire itself stays the same. Well, at least I did type "novice" in my post ;P

Since you have air suspension, could you lift the height to "standard" (if even possible) to give KRK an example? Also, nice house!

Done - a real stock height car (as far as I know) with 19s. These are Coventry Whitleys in 19x8; a great choice for this car...

anyways exexpat is right and he is kinda the unofficial rim expert for the forums.... so i've noticed. I have 20's on my x-type. The overall ride is ok, there is about 2 inches of clearance between the wheel well and my tire. ride height is about the same, although i would prefer it to be a little lower. makes the car look a little awkward(?) with so much space between the tire and wheel well.

But to answer your question, I think that anything up to 20" look good on an x-type. I was told 22" was possible on this car but my imagination says it would look quite ridiculous and feel even worse.

Hey funky, you got pics of your ride on 20s stock height? you got me curious on how it looks.

expat posted a gray x-type on 19s looks pretty nice conservatively nice. but the other pic that Trevor posted... is it just the road is slanted or is the wheel tire gap really that big up close?

I think that due to the angle of the photo and the angle of my drive way it makes the gap look a little bigger. IMO the rim size and look are really nice and fit the car well.

Im not anywhere near my car, so these are the only pics I have of the ride height and the clearance in the wheel well.

looks real nice.

so my options now is to go with 19x8 (225x35x19) or 20x8.5 (225x30x20)... both of these wont rub on stock height right?

I get absolutely NO rub whatsoever with the size I went with. I was told by the shop that i bought my rims from that I could go with a 225x35x20 tire but I didnt wanna risk it. But like I said before the ride is "ok". You may want to consider getting the 2253520. Your family will thank you.

And imo, the brushed aluminum look or the all chrome are the only wheels that should be sported on an x-type (waiting for exexpat to get some forgiatos ). With that said, I really need to change my rims.

235/30/20 works also. I generally hate chrome, but it is better than black faces with polished or chrome lips (which it seems everyone gets talked into these days, as they tend to be cheaper than silver wheels). There are a few brushed/machine finish wheels that I like, very few.

Thanks all for the rep! Sorry its been awhile but anyway i have some last few questions.

As you know i have stock suspension, Im leaning towards 19s with 235x35x19. probably 19x8 40-42 offset.

1. how many inches gap from the tip of the tire to the tip of the fender? like 1-2 inches?
2. will i rub with stock suspension?

Thanks!

Hello, I really like the 19" wheels on car, the problem I have is I go to coventry wheels and they say they only have them in 19" x 8.5" and they won't fit my 02 X-type. Im thinking they must have them and I must have some info incorrect. If you would, could you send me specs of wheels and tires so I can finally get this little project finished. It seems that every time I find wheels I like, nope wont fit, wrong size or whatever. Anyway, I see them on car so I know I can buy them. If you can help. Thank you.
