Default 2.0D Estate starting issues

Hi Everyone,

I'm very new here so be gentle. Have a 2005 2.0D estate xtype with 81000 on the clock and its been fantastic but I have an issue upon starting which surface a few days after buying from a private seller.

For some reason I have to hold the key to the starting position for a few seconds longer after the engine has cranked or it will run very lumpy or cut out. No black smoke as I have blanked the EGR (6mm hole cut to fool the sensor). Its happens when both cold or hot.

Every now and again it starts immediately so I let go of the key but more often than not, I have to keep it on just to make sure. I only fuel up with Shell/Shell nitro and the car runs fantastic all the time. I haven't taken it to a garage as yet as I want some opinions from you all first.

Any ideas? Many thanks,

MTF
