2001 X type 2.5 Auto Gearbox Fault TCM
Hi
Just acquired a 2001 2.5 X-Type Auto (my first) . Bought cheaply as happy to try and fix. Only 38k mile from new with full service history.
This was bought knowing it had some issues, but driveable. Main thing is it is in limp mode with Gearbox Faulty notification and Engine management light on.
Main code read is P1643. OI believe this is TCM ECM Canbus fault?
Other codes thrown up by a jaguar scanner before purchased are U1900 (canbus) C1956,C1279,C1155 (steering, angle, yaw, abs front n/s)
I'm not convinced these are related to Gearbox code.
I have just taken TCM out and it showed some corrosion/water ingress on four pins. Board itself appears undamaged.
Cleaned connections with switch cleaner and reassembled.
Have taken ECM out to check and there is no water ingress so should be ok.
I have tried clearing the code with an Autel Maxiscan 409 (similar to RAC version) which clears Mil light but this returns on restarting.
Should it revert to normal when the battery is reconnected or does it take a bit of driving to clear codes?
Have replacement TCM coming to try, but if this doesn't work, is there a sequence of what to check. eg wiring loom gearbox fluid levels as per jaguar schedule?
(have posted on UK Jaguar Forum but being told Actual Gearbox at fault, where on here it seems maybe not?
Many thanks from a newbie

Used TCM came yesterday. Plugged it in and no difference.
So first not sure if I have to clear the P1643 code? with OBD reader
otherwise what nest? check wiring loom, J-gate?
