Default 2002 3.0L 'Guess the Sound' (With Video!)

Hi all,

I've been getting some new noises from the cat lately - ones that actually worry me - so I decided to take a video to try to figure out some of the sounds.

This cat has 110k miles on it, I've been driving it hard this year (I got it last September) putting ~14k miles on it so far.

I bought the cat knowing it wouldn't be a long-term car, I needed something that I trusted to hang on for at least a year while I muddled in low-income job hell waiting for my wife to finish her degree so we could move to my home-state of MN and get on with life. That being said it's served me through getting married, a 4000-mile road-trip honeymoon, multiple trips between Chicago and Minneapolis, etc.

Now we're in MN, I'm starting my new 'career' job on Wed, and I'm just trying to keep this cat on it's last couple lives for 3 more months until I get a few paychecks to get something newer and fresher.

There are no codes, so no easy hints.

With all that background, let's play 'guess that (those) sounds!"

The flex-plate has been making noise for some time - sounds kind of like a distant helicopter with a whupwhupwhup sound.

The tranny seems to be making a slight whine - it's got about 40k on it, it has a Jatco Reman sticker on it and the previous owner said that was put in at 71k.

The transfer case was a rebuilt/used that was put in by the previous owner at ~90k So who knows?

The video is annoted to target the sounds I'm worried about, but if you hear others (yes, the suspension is shot) feel free to mention them.

No one seems to have replied; I can hear plastic noises that sound like something hitting the camera or microphone thereon. Is that what you are talking about? Underneath that I do hear the faint whine but nothing else stands out. One local shop has an onboard multichannel listening device they drive around with. They put microphones under the car at suspicious places and pinpoint the source by dialing through the channels one by one inside the vehicle. If you are near a big city, you will find somebody like that to narrow this down for you I bet.
