Default 2002 3.0L V6 X-Type Transmission Differences between VINs?

Hello. I am asking for a friend.

We were looking on car-part.com for an automatic transmission for a 2002 X-Type 3.0 L V6.

Two automatic transmissions appear for the 3.0L. One for the vin through C7 and another one for the vins after C7.

The car has a C6 VIN. However, there are less of those transmissions locally than the transmissions with later VINs.

Are there any important differences between the two transmissions? Would the later transmission bolt up and work fine on a car with an earlier VIN?

I am not sure in which manual I would find this, although I am looking. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

mrmister, first off, welcome to the forums. I think you will find lots of very useful information here. So, grab a cup of joe, sit back and read up. There's tons of information for you to take in. But, we also ask that you stop by the "New Member" section. Introduce yourself. We are not your average car group. We like to get to know one another and have a good time overall.

As for your question. The difference between the two transmissions has to do more with the sensors than the tranny itself. The earlier tranny's used a 16 bit TCM where the newer tranny's use a 32 bit TCM. The pinouts for the two trannies is identical, so, atleast from that point of view they will work. Kinda like the 2 trannies are identical internally when it comes to gears and what not. The big issue I am not sure about is the sensors and how they may be different.

Hopefully one of the techs can stop by and give you a bit more definitive "yes/no" answer. Trannies is one of my weaknesses when it comes to cars. I understand how they work, never gotten into the details of how to tweak them and rip them apart to fix them.

Sorry for the late reply, but I'm logging back in just to say thanks. That helped a lot. I wasn't able to find the information myself in the reference manuals I was looking at.

I would make an introduction thread but I was just asking for a friend and I don't own a Jaguar myself. Thanks for the friendly welcome though!

Did a little research on the transmission in my '05 3.0 and found that it is a JATCO JF506E that is shared with the Mazda 6. Hopefully that starting place will allow people to investigate over versions of the transmission in our X-Types.
