Default 2002 won't start reliably

Good Morning Guys

An aggravating problem with Sis' '02 2.5 Sport. Every second start or so, the red light on the console doesn't flash, and the car refuses to crank. Maybe a few hours later, or maybe the next attempt, everything is fine! If I understand the relevant threads, no red light means the security system isn't recognizing the key chip, but it only does it some times (with both keys). Any ideas? We've grounded the battery leads to each other, and the battery voltage looks good.

I don't really know if this is going to help, but I have had the same problem when the key isn't clicked open all of the way. Maybe you should try forcing the key to stay open while it is in the ignition. I would either say that it would be the power wires which you already checked or the key.
