Adam, actually, the manual/automatic transmission thing is a show stopper without reprogramming (I missed this tidbit in the above reply). Because you have a manual tranny, you are going to have to either find a manual tranny ECM (hard to find due to the limited number of manuals) or you will have to have the ECM reprogrammed.

Because of your car being a manual, I need you to re-perform the start check, but this time, put the tranny in neutral and then do not depress the clutch. At this point, attempt to start the car. It shouldn't want to crank over. If it does, then this is confirming an issue with the ECM.

Ok I pinned out the dlc and the can following the guide all is good there. Pulled ecm and connector was full of oil, weird not oil around so I cleaned the connector and the ecm male connector still same pecus e error. I just took ecm apart now and oil is inside. So I douched it out with electronic cleaner. Gonna try tomorrow I hope this is the problem. Called Ford dealership that the po said diagnostic the car all they would tell me is it had bad compression it needs a engine... lol would oil in the ecm cause all these problems??

Thanks

Well, congrats, you are officially the first person that has oil in his ECM!!

By the way, Ford dealerships are incapable of diagnosing a Jaguar, fyi. I have a monsterous one half a mile from me, I've talked to them plenty. Their advise every time? Go to/call SLC Jaguar.

Your question was of course rhetorical, there are numerous threads and posts about water intrusion ruining the ECM, what do you think oil would do?

And how in the Hell would oil get in there?

This is starting to sound really fishy to me. Unless somehow oil is coming through the firewall, it either is not oil or someone placed it there. I would try dunking the ECM in a gallon of say isopropyl alcohol and then follow it up with some electronics cleaner and then let it set for a day or so. see what you have then. For oil to get to the ECM, you would need to have one hell of a mess inside your engine bay. You don't mention that.

Lets see what you have after this and then we can go from there.

Is there any way that oil could maybe be old coolant? Does it actually look/smell like engine oil? Could you take a picture of it?

I didn't take a picture of it but it was oil for sure brown and slick
I already cleaned the **** out of it with electronic cleaner and no dice it did the same thing. I've found a cluster ecm and key for 300 bucks out of a 02 2 5 manual X-Type but I'm broke till payday should I clean it more idk it looks pretty damn clean to me. Couldn't see any obvious burnt solder or anything either but the label did look like it had water Mark's I'll post a pic

I also thought it was weird. I don't get it the outside of the connector is normal weathered looking also there is no oil on the fire wall. It does look like the power steering reservoir was leaking that's the closest oil source I see.

Yeah, but the ECU is way back at the firewall. Hence the water egress problem of water running down the windshield and behind (warped/loose) shroud onto the unit.

I love mine. Bought it in NJ and drove it all the way home w/fuel & bathroom breaks only through a massive snow storm covering, Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, Wyoming and home. Even though mine does not have DSC (which many argue is WAY better in snow), I had absolutely no problems driving through the blizzard. Even got stuck in Cheyenne for 8 hours when they closed the freeway.

I'm praying the ecm fixes it. Who ever had it was rough on the brakes lol the rotors have a 1/4 in lip on them. Looks like it has 2 brand new tires on one side and 2 not new on the other side. I hope that there isn't a million. Other problems lol. There is a sexy 04 3.0 at the junk yard out here I wish I could just keep that engine and swap mu manual transmission into it.

That is just so bizarre....
You would think to have oil find it's way inside that would mean there is a ton of oil on the outside and that, if so, that label would be covered in it too, plus there would be evidence of some kind of massive oil leak.

Hope the new ECM gets you going.

Got her running

New cluster, ecm and key.

Got them out of a 03 2.5 manual

Also put gem module from that car in.
Just popped the key open and used the chip out of the donor car then reprogrammed the fob and it all works great she sounds clean. Has abs light on and seems a bit sluggish but idk how its supposed to be to begin with. Had some cels
P0102
P0112
P1338
P1699

But I cleared them and they have not came back.

Just abs light. But with as bad as the brakes look I bet a wheel sensor is tripping it. Also when I hit the dsc switch nothing happens, what's supposed to happen?

Also for anyone searching if your doing this type of ecm, cluster and key swap on these cars the vin range and the message center option don't matter as far as I can see.

Thanks for the help guys.

Cool, the only thing that sucks about this fix, is now your mileage and VIN won't match the original.
The ABS I'd worry about after you do the brakes.

Abs light still on with new brakes. Checked wheel sensors need to get it scanned with a reader that can read c codes
