Default 2003 2.5 V6 EML and fault codes

Hi guys,

The plot thickens to my EML being illuminated! When its reset it stays off for a couple of journeys. It then comes on after a while and displays fault codes P0420, which im sure relates to an O2 sensor. When I give it some stick occasionally at around 5000rpm the EML flashes and performance judders slightly for around 20-30 seconds. The light then goes solid again and performance is back ok. Recently ive started getting other fault codes such as P0300, P0301, P0303 which I believe relates to misfire sensor, but ive since had P1313 come up. This morning whilst driving I lost the rev counter, temp gauge and solid red light illuminted on the dash but no change in performance. A new code has appeared P1642. Once I got home I switched the car off waited a minute and fired it up whereby all the dials worked correctly. Ive kept all the codes currently but can anyone shed any light on where to start looking please

Jops, I would recommend pulling off the intake and looking at the #1 and #3 plug wells for signs of oil. From the sounds of things, you have some oil in there and that is causing those cylinders to not fire fully. This would lead to the P0301 and P0303 codes for sure and has been known to cause the P0420 code also. The P1313 code is simply telling you that cylinders on bank 1 (ie, cylinders 1,3,5) are misfiring at a rate that cat damage is possible

The only way that the P1642 code can be related back to all the other codes that you are getting is if the ECU is starting to go bad and you are having significant issues with the ECU. By chance, do you notice the problems after you either run the car through the car wash or it is raining outside? If so, this would tend to point back to the ECU getting water inside of it.

You're causing cat damage so P0420. Stop driving until you fix the fault(s).
