2003 rattle behind ashtray

2003 rattle behind ashtray

I just bought a used 2003 with 32000 miles. It has a rattle/hum coming from around the ashtray. If I hold the ashtray door in the closed position real tight/hard it appears to quit. Has any one else had this issue and if so, how did you fix it. The noise might be coming from behind the ashtray and holding the lid down might push the entire console down and squeeze whatever is causing the noise. Any info on removing the console trim to see behind the ashtray would also be appreciated.

Sounds like you may have a screw loose back there.
To remove the ashtray, first remove the shifter console cover by just lifting it up. The clips aren't tight and you should have no problems. Once that is removed, you'll see the two screws holding the ashtry.
