Cheers,
Do you know if it has been tried on the V8s yet? I'm having the same symptoms on my 2005 S-type V8 and noticed the same black plate on the back of the compressor.

Whats the worst that can happen if I do this TSB on the v8? It looks like the v6 and v8 have a similar compressor.

Well, I've considered that might be worth investigating some day; but as yet I've never had try it. The 4.2L compressor is 15cc bigger in displacement than the V6 unit, [105cc vs 90cc] and doesn't seem to ever fall short in getting the job done like the smaller one. So far any poor cooling 4.2L S-Type I've run into has be traced to, and repaired by, repairing the failed water valve or some other control feature, or loss of refrigerant charge. The compressor itself never falls short. So to answer your question, I honestly don't know if your 4.2L has the same valve setup, I've never been compelled to look.

Hope that helps!

Well I did the TSB on the V8 and I'm currently pulling a vacuum on it so we shall see if I get lucky.

Good luck, someone posted the other day in the S Type section that they had done this on their STR and it had worked.
This was the ebay seller I got the compressor from eBay My World - lasolas2020 but he seems to only sell them intermittently.

The TSB didn't work on my S-type V8, the clutch wouldn't engage.

Yes indeedy, but as Howie Mandel would say, it was a bad deal (pricewise) but not reallly bad. Just could've been better.

That's odd, look here, https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...ow-side-76191/
Did it work when you switched it back?

alright ladies and gents, I am about to give this thing a shot. But before I do, can anyone out there post up some detailed instructions? That way i dont go in empty handed, and have a better handle of things. If not, I'll start, and if/when I get stuck, Ill be back on here to post again.

Cheers,
I too have the same problem and am interested in xjrguy's fix. My only question is this. If I was going to do the procedure myself. Would I need to evacuate the r134 out of the system before, and vacuum the system again once the fix is complete to ensure there's no air or moisture in the lines, then recharge or can I just open the compressor, make the fix, then evacuate the system and do a recharge. Also would i need to put in more AC oil durring the recharge or just R134. Thanks so much for posting the fix, I'm excited to try it out.

Yes, you will have to recover the refrigerant, make the repair, then vacuum the system and recharge with the proper R134a charge weight. No oil will be necessary.

Good luck!

Thank you so much, it's very helpful to have clarity when you're a noob and considering doing something yourself.

has anyone with an xtype had a problem with when the car warms up to temperture the a/c compressor shuts off, i googled it and the problem comes up but not what fixed the problem. I figured maybe the temperture sensor or maybe the controller. The controllers are cheap enough on ebay, no trouble lights on any help would be appreciated

It basically says to remove and install the same parts besides the O ring?

I called jaguar in hopes of buying a new spring, valve, filter but they told me all these parts are not available and you would have to buy the entire compressor.

Did they discontinue selling these items? I can't understand how removing and reinstalling the same parts would fix the problem.
You have to re install the O-ring or the Freon will leak out. Just flip the plunger around. A/C works a lot better for me after I did this.

What is the outside temperature? I have done the compressor modification and it really makes a difference. I have been in very high ambient temperatures and the A/C does not work, 110F plus just driving around town. If I get on the freeway then the A/C starts to work.
