Default 2003 X-Type stalls, changed spark plugs & intake manifold gasket gearbox fault

Purchased used 2003 xtype. Drove it not more than 40 milles and it stalled twice before overheating. Cruise control not available was on dash prior to all of this. Had water pump & radiator changed which took care of overheating problem. Drove it home (about 100 miles) and randomly stalked twice. Next day went to drive it and brakes weren't working. Drove it around the block and brakes started to function. The following day engine wouldn't turn over. Changed spark plugs and intake manifold gaskets as recommended and now there's no power. Gearbox fault is now on dash. Any suggestions?

Most of the time the cruise control fault is the brake switch, but do you have a way to check the codes? Otherwise, backtrack what you did to do the spark plugs to make sure everything is plugged in correctly and where it should be. As for the brakes not working, the vacuum pipe from brake booster to intake, it has a valve on it, they are notorious for leaking, could be related to your brake issue. Does the brake pedal go to the floor, or is it really hard?

+1 on JBz's recommendations. Double check you work on the plug change. Especially check the small 2 wire connector on the bottom of the throttle body. The connector gets very brittle from engine heat and doesn't always make a good connection. The connections will cause a stall.
You also need the codes but from the sounds of it you have a major vacuum leak to trace down. The major culprits are the intake manifold gaskets, the brake booster line, pvc valve hose to the manifold and the hose running from the fuel injection rack to the back of the intake manifold.
The not turning over sounds like back connections to the battery. The posts and clamps will need to be cleaned. It is also possible that the corrosion hasn't gotten to the interior of the cable and that will cause a high resistance.
The gear box fault indication can be caused by low voltage levels. Again possibly the cables to the battery. The x-type requires a good strong battery are else all kinds of electrical gremlins pop up.

Brakes were hard. Found a loose connection and took it out for two short rides. Since then, not able to start again.

Loss of vacuum?

You sound to need a mechanic.
