Hello All,
I'm trying to help a fellow Jag owner out with a problem that has caused his 2004 X-type 3.0 AWD to fail NY state inspection. I took the car for a short low speed trip around the block and did not notice anything particularly wrong, but the visible symptom is that the driver's side rear wheel appears to be leaning in and the tire is badly worn on the inside. The passenger side rear wheel seems to be leaning in as well, but to a lesser extent and the tire is showing similar but less severe wear. Any ideas? The car has about 176,000 miles which in my mind would be enough to cause any number of worn bushing/worn strut/broken spring possibilities, but I was hoping someone more knowledgeable than I on this model might be able to provide some specific guidance.

Paul, it is sounding like you have springs that are starting to get weak and this is causing the rear end to sit a little lower than it did when it was brand new. This will result in the rear tires leaning in at the top. Take a look at:

This is the fix for it. A lot of members have done this modification and is pretty easy to do. Since you are going to be in there anyways, probably a good idea to also check the lower/forward control arms and if they are even questionable, replace them at the same time. That way you only need 1 alignment when all is done.
