Default 2004, Passenger Low Beam Out, Help?

I used the search engine, and found a few discussions.

My car is a 2004 X Type, and I'm guessing my headlights are basic halogen?
How can I tell? I've owned a few cars with Xenon's, and these don't look like Xenons. Is there a simple way to tell ... I would't know what a ballast looks
like, I'm afraid.

I'm taking my car in on Monday to my corner garage/old school mechanic for an oil change. The passenger low beam just went out.

Is this something my guy can fix, just a finicky black cover to remove?
Or am I in to a bumper removal and big expense?

I'm guessing if the bulbs are Xenon, then I'm into possible ballasts and expensive bulbs?

Thanks to anyone who can relieve my anxiety at a big vs. small repair.

Reading more search posts, I'm hoping I have the basic Halogens.
I don't have a sticker by the door hinge mentioning Xenons, and the headlights turn
on instantly, no delay.
It looks like there is a black cover with one easily accesible clip, and one very difficult
clip.
Hopefully its just a bulb, not a burned wiring harness.

I'll have it checked out on Monday.

tcbted, To get to the Driver's side headlight I remove the battery. The other side is readily accessible, however, you need a long flat blade screwdriver to reach in and release the far clip that hold the black plastic cap in place. The first clip (bent metal rod) is easy to push out of the way, its the one closer to the fender that you need the screwdriver for.

In any case, if you have Sylvania H1 bulbs in there, they are known to get much hotter than stock bulb and so melt the socket. There are replacement sockets with ceramic sockets and 14 guage wire leads available on Ebay for $15. I am going to fix my low beams tomorrow with these leads and a soldering iron.

tcbted, one note of caution (not sure if you have seen this yet), but the internals of the headlight are fragile. They are really easy to break. So, while I admit that you can get to the headlight bulb and whatnot from the hood area, just be careful. You start pressing on the internals too much and you can snap the posts that hold the reflectors in place and not you will have a headlight that is either lighting up the sky or the 3 feet in front of the car. Odds are, you have a bulb that has failed. Not that big of a deal. If it is the connector, it will be pretty obvious once you get the cover off of the back of the headlight.

From the sounds of things, you do have the halogen bulbs. If you remove the plastic cover off of the headlights and you have to remove a black plastic block (3x3x1" in size roughly), then you have the HID bulbs.

Thanks for the support.

When I bought the car from Barrie Lexus, one of the little peanut lights was out.
When the tech tried to replace it, he broke an aiming tab, driver's side.
It took the tech about 2 hours to replace that tab, and he mentioned the space is
very confined.
I'll be careful of the aiming tab.

Does anyone know if the bulb pulls straight out with some force, or do you turn it
counter clockwise?

Just to close the thread, I had the oil changed this morning, and my mechanic popped
in the correct bulb. He was careful not to break any adjustment tabs.
The wiring harness was fine.
Cost was $30 plus tax, which covered the oil change, bulb, and labour.

Dodged a bullet, this time.
