Unhappy 2004 - won't start; radio and warning lights don't come on

First off I would like to thank everyone in advance, this seems to be a pretty tight community, as it should be.
I've ran into a bit of trouble today and was hoping someone could help me find a solution. On my way to work my car suddenly shut off and wouldnt start again, radio and cluster panel dot swith on ether. Battery is fine and connected, locks, lights and seats(power) work fine. It's a 2004 x-type 2.5 liter. I've recently installed a sound system on it and remote wire was connected to a fuse, which I checked and is fine. I also checked all the engine bay fuses, not relays, and those are fine as well. Kind of running out of ideas at this point and fuse diagram for 04 is nowhere to be found.
Any input is greatly appreciated

So today I've swapped some relays around, also checked the battery and connected to external power source to rule out weak battery and alternator. Also had one mechanic look at it quick, his suggestion was that it's a mainline fuse that connects the power to the engine bay fusebox, is anyone familiar with a location of this fuse?

You can find the fuse diagram in the handbook.

Thanks for the tip, I'll read it once I get home. Yesterday I checked the rest of the fuses, located on the interior and as my father was unscrewing something by the box he short circuited and now everything is 'dead' the battery still has power. I should add initially the trunk wouldn't open, as one of the symptoms, but lights and seats worked fine. Appointment scheduled with a $hop tomorrow morning :\

Please check the + cable that runs from the battery to the engine bay fuse box. I had the exact same symptoms and the cable had shorted out against a bolt.

That MAY be the problem, I have a poorly wired subwoofer in the trunk, though I'd assume the fuse for the + would be the first to go. What exactly should I do? Currently the car is in a shop, which will cost me quite a bit just for towing and initial diagnostics. if I can save a bit and get this figured out before they do, would be fantastic.

That cable runs low behind the battery box right across a big **** bolt. I had the same type of problem. Was running at about 50 mph and everything just shut down. It looks okay from above but the insulation may have worn through from rubbibg on that bolt. That's what happened to mine.

That's pretty much what it was. 2 days and $300 later they've found a burnt mega-fuse under the engine bay fuse box. Thank you for the tips hope this will save someone time and money. Will post a picture of the fuse later since it's not a common one.
