Default 2004 X Type hard starting issues

My 2004 x type 3.0 sport (70k milwa) was having starting issues. It was slow to start and often had to be tried several times before starting. And it was throwing fault codes for the DSC. After reading several posts I replaced the battery (even though it cranked just fine) and most importantly the negative battery cable which was hell to get off. Prior to this the car would start if i gave it quite a bit of throttle. I wondered if the fuel pump was going but it always would start. Replacing the battery and cable solved the problem. Now the car starts like new. And no codes. The cable looked bad and I believe was bad. I have heard from a local shop that the fuel pump has variable current to it instead of constant pressure with a return line like many cars. If the battery or cables were to be faulty the ECU could be giving weak signals to the fuel pump causing hard starting. I think this was what was happening to my car. Hope this helps others with similar problems.
