2005 X-type 3.0
As a newbie here I am not 100% sure I'm in the right place. I found a supplier for the 2-7 brake duty pressure oil pressure solenoid my mechanic says is the problem but the reply I got from the dealer parts dept. makes me worry as they seem to be saying the solenoid alone might not solve the gearbox fault. In any case there are other issues I hope to address once this one is done.( EG.) Warning light says I have an ECM problem that has stopped my ABS system and the quoted price for a new ECM was $1400 so since everything works but the ABS, I am waiting for cheaper alternatives, possibly pulling the module and having what seems to be a loose connection fixed. Not clear on this one yet. I also somehow lost the inside black round headlight cover and when I called the dealer they had no idea what it was so I am on the hunt for that and then how to determine if the light has another problem keeping it from turning on. Lastly all the driver side of the speakers have shut down. I am thinking maybe a connection at the radio itself has come loose. Hoping these things don't result in what was a fairly good car being a part out or mechanic special. I live in Surrey BC and there doesn't seem to be many mechanics who are really conversant with Jaguar X-types.
Welcome to the forums tangofiend,

tangofiend, as others I am sure will attest to, if you are needing to replace 1 solenoid, you probably need to replace all of them. Not that much more money and not that much more work once you factor in draining the fluid and whatnot. May even be able to find a rebuild valve body for the car and be able to do a "plug and play" swap. Yes, this will cost you a little more, but will save you from a lot of soldering and whatnot.
As for the ECM, can you give us some codes as to why you think the ECM is causing the ABS to not work. Being familiar with the car, that is not a normal failure mode for this car. I would venture to guess you are getting a C11X5 code (with X being a number between 4 and 7). If so, that is a wheel bearing/reluctance ring issue normally.
As for getting a garage to repair the car, I know the site is going to shoot me for saying this, but it will help you get the car fixed. The Jag is just a ford with a few twists. The motor is the same one that they put in the Lincoln LS just with the water pump moved and variable valve timing. The block and cylinders are the same. The LS and the Jag use the same tranny. So, is the mechanic saying that they can't fix a Ford product? Yes, the car is a Jag. But, it is not so exotic that a corner store shop cannot fix it.

Thanks Thermo, this is the kind of help I was hoping to find on the forum. When I speak to dealer mechanics their information is somewhat depressing. although they do throw in a few gems once in a while. The hard part of the X-type being basically a ford etc. is findong what the requuired part number might be. Hopefully this forum will fill gaps. I'll do another check on the code for the engine chek light, it has been on for over a year and only the abs system seems to be missing. Thanks again for the help.
tangofiend, if they can't find a part number, then they are blind and or do not want to deal with the car. If you look at any part on the car, you are going to see 3 sets of numbers. I am going to make up something here to demonstrate, but you will find this in the whole car. So, lets start with "4x43-12345-AB". If you look around the car, you will find lots of numbers like this. Lets break it down. The "4x43" is telling me that the part is coming off of a second generation Jaguar X-Type (first gen would be a 1X43"). Each car has a number system like this. The 12345 is telling me what the part is. The beauty is that this part number is consistent for the type of part it is. So, if the same part is used on say an X-Type and an S-Type, this number is going to be the same. The first 4 will be different, but these will be the same. Kinda like it should transfer over to say a Lincoln LS for example as Jaguar and Lincoln were getting their parts from similar places and would have been using common components for the cars. The diffference would be potential programming of the module. This is where the last few letters come in. This is the version number of the module. As the program gets updated, it gets a new final few letters. So, a module that ends with say AB is an older version than something that ends with say AE. I mention this as you will find that your car will have fewer issues if you stick with the same general programming. YOu get too far from what is in the car, you may start having compatibility issues.
