2005 x-type Sport Wagon - Octane/Fuel Requirements
Hi! I recently purchased a 2005 x-type sport wagon that has low miles and was very well maintained by the previous owner. My only concern is that the previous owner was using 87 octane gasoline (regular) and mentioned that it should not be switched back to a higher octane. The manual says to use only premium gasoline. I noticed on this forum that some people mentioned getting better performance with a higher octane gasoline.
So here is my question... Can I safely switch back to a premium gasoline? Advantages? Disadvantages (other then cost)?
Thanks in advance!

I can't imagine why changing to premium would be a problem unless there's been some programming modification - which seems unlikely (where was the car being serviced?).
I generally use premium in my 2005 wagon but have experimented with tanks of both mid grade and regular with no ill effects.
Was the previous owner in the Puget Sound area? We seem to have quite a few wagons around here.

Thanks for your reply. I didn't think it would be a problem but thought I should get a another opinion.
I am not aware of any programming modifications and I agree that it is doubtful that any were made. However, I will double check with the local dealer (there is only one in this area and I know the previous owner used that dealer).
BTW - I am the third owner. The previous owner (2nd) and myself are both from the Portland Oregon area but I know the previous owner worked in the Puget Sound area until a year ago. It is possible that is where he purchased it.
