Unhappy 2006 X Repair Blues Ventilation

So I had the brilliant idea, that while on vacation for a week, I would put the lil kitty in shop. I knew there was a brake issue (like trying to stop on snow), but told the guys to run through it, drive it around , take it home, check for codes, just a real good servicing plus oil change, plugs etc.

3 days into the Florida sun I get an e-mail with estimate and services. ($4,800. Choke but not surprised) Call 'em and give the ok. The biggest issue at moment is brakes. Said problem was ABS unit. (even though no trouble light indicator ever showed) The guys at shop opted to send it off for rebuild for $1,300 as opposed to $5k or so for new one. And for my convenience, they needed $1,300 deposit for that. Ahem.
Well, here it is, been back from vacation for 2 weeks, still no kitty back in its cage. Everything other than ABS unit is finished. I called today, and am told the business that did rebuild "left out one of the electrical parts on module." Can't get whatever part they're telling of local, or around. Ahem.
I'm in Alabama, they're in California so I can't go pick the mystery part myself. Will be in Monday or Tuesday. Leaving me to rent a car for 2nd time for out of town business. But hey! They put me a new set of tires on! but no, not free. I am doing and learning breathing exercises

Brother.............I am upset for you. That a horrible story. I would calmly request some sort of discount in the form of at least 20 percent to start. My gosh that's assanine......good luck.

Just what all did you have done? And what kind of brake issue did you have? Were there any warning lights on the dash? That is sure a lot of money to spend at one time for something that doesn't sound like a $4K expense from your brief description.

Well the shop guys aren't bad, have dealt with them a few times between this and a '01 S we had. They do the job well, nothing until they get the go-ahead. But this issue I do think could have been avoided. And the car is a good car. Bought 2 yrs ago, 2 owner, around 36,000 mi at the time. The brakes got to like stopping in snow. No error codes for ABS showed. I was thinking/hoping just sensor. but like I had said, I put it in for the go through, and the wait is just part of it.

Here's the estimate and job detail. Sorry bout the layout, but you can pretty well understand what they did.

To finish off the story, ABS part came in, then software troubles. Had to get Jaguar to send update to their scanner or something, still wouldn't program right, so a new harness was ordered. FINALLY after a solid month with the shop I got to pick her up. Bill was a thousand less $$ than estimated. Off I drive. Little bit of road noise, I figured was the new tires. Now, 2 weeks later, I have to start a new thread to talk of "new issues".

dear skyryder I feel sorry for you,it looks like you got taken to the cleaners by a bunch of cowboys, either that or your cars a bunch of junk, in Scotland if they tried that one on with me, they would have got gubbed, (punched in mouth). I take it you haven't got a clue about how cars work.from my reckoning based on your description it sounds like you had a wee bit of air in the system ,and they only needed bled, which is easily identified by a spongy feeling when brakes are applied, also the prices they are charging for parts are ridiculous, are they gold plated, and were all the parts necessary, catch them out, ask for the old parts back. if they cannot produce them see a lawyer. sorry I just noticed your final update, best advice I can give you. find a new garage fast. put it down to an expensive learning curve.
