Are 225/50/17 ok?
iownme, I am running 235/45R17's on my car and I have noticed that I get a very minor touching of the tire to the fender liner with the wheel in a very limited portion of the turning radius. With the tires you are looking at being 0.6" larger in diameter, I feel that you will be able to get away with them, but you may need to do something to tie the fender liner (rear portion of the front wheels) out of the way some to prevent any incidental rubbing.
I think you will be fine when it comes to suspension components and the body itself.

Thanks Thermo, after reading reviews of the tires in question i decided
to continue searching, they were on a list of 2 worst snow tires!
Funnily enough, another set i was looking at were the other tires
on that same list...
Winter claw and firestone winter force. My nokian hakkapeliittas (need
1 more) came in #1 best snow tire... Ggrrrr!

I just had a friend stop by who saw my tires, he asked why dont i just put an inner tube in and still use the one with the cut?.
Is this a viable and safe remedy?

iownme, based on the pic, it looks like the cords are damaged and even with that, I could not recommend putting in a tube and running it that way. While it may hold air that way, you risk having the tire come apart as you are at speed and you are no better off than simply gluing the tire back together to make it air tight. The structural integrity of the tire is in question with the cords damaged.
I could be wrong but I believe 225 45 17 would be a better remedy for you & should fit with no issues
