275/35/18 rear tires???? Is this for real???
I was surfing the used car sites today and came across this: http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail...eadExists=true
Nice car, but the guy says he has 275 series tires on the back. I can't believe he could make those fit witthout rubbing or doing some serious modifications. From the looks of the pictures they do not look that wide to me. I know someone that has the time/money/motivation can do anything, but does this sound real or just crazy talk?
Also, can having rear tires that size on the rear and different ones on the front have any bad effects on the transfer case/transmission? Hats off to him if he did it, but I'm skeptical. I e-mailed him just to ask. Sure is a nice looking car in any case.

If the rolling diameter is the same, then there are no problems. But 275's in back?! dayummm
I only have a 2.5, but with 205/55/16 performance tires, I can't get the car to break free. Even in heavy rain, just take a turn, put pedal to floor during turn, and instead of the back coming out, it just digs in and rockets out of the corner. I love it.
And wow he has the same garage I do, except opposite colors. He has Black x-type and silver E90. I have a Silver X-Type and a Black E90!! lol

Alfadude, unless he has custom rims in the rear, I am really doubting that he has 275's back there. Granted, I would ask him to send a better image of the rear tires. The one image that he includes, it is really hard to see what size tire is there. Without spending a lot of time manipulating the image to try and figure out the tire size, I am not believing it until I get something a bit more solid.

Yeah, I agree with you, Thermo. That's what I thought. Looking at the picture and judging what mine looks like from the rear with the stock size 225s, they looked about the same. If he really had 275s on there I would think it would be quite noticable as 275 is a pretty wide tire.
I haven't got a reply to my e-mail to him and might not as I told the guy I wasn't intersted in buying it, but instead just wanted to ask a couple questions. If he does answer I will update everyone. My gut feel is that it is an x-typo when he wrote up the ad. If it is true I would wonder what it would do to the handling balance.

Looks like they could be 275's. That is really only about an inch wider each side off of center. So, they could fit without too much problem on the rear with the proper offset. But, with the 35 profile on 18's that would make the tire overall about an inch taller than stock and can't that cause a problem with the AWD with the front rolling diameter being smaller. No?

Looking at the pictures again maybe they are wider in the back and even though it looks like the car is sitting on an angled driveway, it still seems like the rear is higher than the front. If the rears are taller than the fronts someone unsuspecting that buys the car might be in for an expensive surprise in the near future.
Also, anyone know what that thing is in the middle vent with the wire going into the center stack?
